Sahih International:
[Al-Khidh r] said, “Did I not tell you that with me you would never be able to have patience?”

قَالَ إِن سَأَلْتُكَ عَن شَىْءٍۭ بَعْدَهَا فَلَا تُصَـٰحِبْنِى ۖ قَدْ بَلَغْتَ مِن لَّدُنِّى عُذْرًۭا
18:76play_arrow
Qaala in sa altuka ‘an shai’im ba’dahaa falaa tusaahibnee qad balaghta mil ladunnee ‘uzraa
Sahih International:
[Moses] said, “If I should ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me as a companion. You have obtained from me an excuse.”

فَٱنطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَتَيَآ أَهْلَ قَرْيَةٍ ٱسْتَطْعَمَآ أَهْلَهَا فَأَبَوْا۟ أَن يُضَيِّفُوهُمَا فَوَجَدَا فِيهَا جِدَارًۭا يُرِيدُ أَن يَنقَضَّ فَأَقَامَهُۥ ۖ قَالَ لَوْ شِئْتَ لَتَّخَذْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًۭا
18:77play_arrow
Fantalaqaa hattaaa izaaa atayaaa ahla qaryatinis tat’amaaa ahlahaa fa abaw any yudaiyifoohumaa fawajadaa feehaa jidaarany yureedu any yanqadda fa aqaamah; qaala law shi’ta lattakhazta ‘alaihi ajraa
Sahih International:
So they set out, until when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. And they found therein a wall about to collapse, so al-Khidh r restored it. [Moses] said, “If you wished, you could have taken for it a payment.”

قَالَ هَـٰذَا فِرَاقُ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنِكَ ۚ سَأُنَبِّئُكَ بِتَأْوِيلِ مَا لَمْ تَسْتَطِع عَّلَيْهِ صَبْرًا
18:78play_arrow
Qaala haazaa firaaqu bainee wa bainik; sa unabi ‘uka bitaaweeli maa lam tastati’ ‘alaihi sabraa
Sahih International:
[Al-Khidh r] said, “This is parting between me and you. I will inform you of the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience.

أَمَّا ٱلسَّفِينَةُ فَكَانَتْ لِمَسَـٰكِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ فَأَرَدتُّ أَنْ أَعِيبَهَا وَكَانَ وَرَآءَهُم مَّلِكٌۭ يَأْخُذُ كُلَّ سَفِينَةٍ غَصْبًۭا
18:79play_arrow
Ammas safeenatu fakaanat limasaakeena ya’maloona fil bahri fa arattu an a’eebahaa wa kaana waraaa’ ahum malikuny yaakhuzu kulla safeenatin ghasbaa
Sahih International:
As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working at sea. So I intended to cause defect in it as there was after them a king who seized every [good] ship by force.

وَأَمَّا ٱلْغُلَـٰمُ فَكَانَ أَبَوَاهُ مُؤْمِنَيْنِ فَخَشِينَآ أَن يُرْهِقَهُمَا طُغْيَـٰنًۭا وَكُفْرًۭا
18:80play_arrow
Wa aammal ghulaamu fakaana abawaahu mu’minaini fakhasheenaaa any yurhiqa humaa tughyaananw wa kufraa
Sahih International:
And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief.

فَأَرَدْنَآ أَن يُبْدِلَهُمَا رَبُّهُمَا خَيْرًۭا مِّنْهُ زَكَوٰةًۭ وَأَقْرَبَ رُحْمًۭا
18:81play_arrow
Faradnaa any yubdila humaa Rabbuhumaa khairam minhu zakaatanw wa aqraba ruhmaa
Sahih International:
So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.

وَأَمَّا ٱلْجِدَارُ فَكَانَ لِغُلَـٰمَيْنِ يَتِيمَيْنِ فِى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ وَكَانَ تَحْتَهُۥ كَنزٌۭ لَّهُمَا وَكَانَ أَبُوهُمَا صَـٰلِحًۭا فَأَرَادَ رَبُّكَ أَن يَبْلُغَآ أَشُدَّهُمَا وَيَسْتَخْرِجَا كَنزَهُمَا رَحْمَةًۭ مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ وَمَا فَعَلْتُهُۥ عَنْ أَمْرِى ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَأْوِيلُ مَا لَمْ تَسْطِع عَّلَيْهِ صَبْرًۭا
18:82play_arrow
Wa ammal jidaaru fakaana lighulaamaini yateemaini fil madeenati wa kaana tahtahoo kanzul lahumaa wa kaana aboohumaa saalihan fa araada Rabbuka any yablughaaa ashuddahumaa wa yastakhrijaa kanzahumaa rahmatam mir Rabbik; wa maa fa’altuhoo ‘an amree; zaalika taaweelu maa lam tasti’ ‘alaihi sabra (section 10)
Sahih International:
And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience.”

وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَن ذِى ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ ۖ قُلْ سَأَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْكُم مِّنْهُ ذِكْرًا
18:83play_arrow
Wa yas’aloonaka ‘an Zil Qarnaini qul sa atloo ‘alaikum minhu zikraa
Sahih International:
And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, “I will recite to you about him a report.”

إِنَّا مَكَّنَّا لَهُۥ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ سَبَبًۭا
18:84play_arrow
Innaa makkannaa lahoo fil ardi wa aatainaahu min kulli shai’in sababaa
Sahih International:
Indeed We established him upon the earth, and We gave him to everything a way.

فَأَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا
18:85play_arrow
Fa atba’a sababaa
Sahih International:
So he followed a way

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَغْرِبَ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَجَدَهَا تَغْرُبُ فِى عَيْنٍ حَمِئَةٍۢ وَوَجَدَ عِندَهَا قَوْمًۭا ۗ قُلْنَا يَـٰذَا ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ إِمَّآ أَن تُعَذِّبَ وَإِمَّآ أَن تَتَّخِذَ فِيهِمْ حُسْنًۭا
18:86play_arrow
Hattaaa izaa balagha maghribash shamsi wajadahaaa taghrubu fee ‘aynin hami’a tinw wa wajada ‘indahaa qawmaa; qulnaa yaa Zal Qarnaini immaaa an tu’az ziba wa immaaa an tattakhiza feehim husnaa
Sahih International:
Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it [as if] setting in a spring of dark mud, and he found near it a people. Allah said, “O Dhul-Qarnayn, either you punish [them] or else adopt among them [a way of] goodness.”

قَالَ أَمَّا مَن ظَلَمَ فَسَوْفَ نُعَذِّبُهُۥ ثُمَّ يُرَدُّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ فَيُعَذِّبُهُۥ عَذَابًۭا نُّكْرًۭا
18:87play_arrow
Qaala amma man zalama fasawfa nu’azzibuhoo summa yuraddu ilaa Rabbihee fa yu ‘azzibuhoo azaaban nukraa
Sahih International:
He said, “As for one who wrongs, we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ ءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا فَلَهُۥ جَزَآءً ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ وَسَنَقُولُ لَهُۥ مِنْ أَمْرِنَا يُسْرًۭا
18:88play_arrow
Wa ammaa man aamana wa ‘amila saalihan falahoo jazaaa’anil husnaa wa sanaqoolu lahoo min amrinaa yusraa
Sahih International:
But as for one who believes and does righteousness, he will have a reward of Paradise, and we will speak to him from our command with ease.”

ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا

Summa atba’a sababaa
Sahih International:
Then he followed a way

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَطْلِعَ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَجَدَهَا تَطْلُعُ عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍۢ لَّمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُم مِّن دُونِهَا سِتْرًۭا
18:90play_arrow
Hattaaa izaa balagha matli’ash shamsi wajdahaa tatlu’u alaa qawmil lam naj’al lahum min doonihaa sitraa
Sahih International:
Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield.

كَذَٰلِكَ وَقَدْ أَحَطْنَا بِمَا لَدَيْهِ خُبْرًۭا
18:91play_arrow
Kazaalika wa qad ahatnaa bimaa ladaihi khubraa
Sahih International:
Thus. And We had encompassed [all] that he had in knowledge.

ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا
18:92play_arrow
Summa atba’a sababaa
Sahih International:
Then he followed a way

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ بَيْنَ ٱلسَّدَّيْنِ وَجَدَ مِن دُونِهِمَا قَوْمًۭا لَّا يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ قَوْلًۭا
18:93play_arrow
Hattaaa izaa balagha bainas saddaini wajada min doonihimaa qawmal laa yakaa doona yafqahoona qawlaa
Sahih International:
Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech.

قَالُوا۟ يَـٰذَا ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ إِنَّ يَأْجُوجَ وَمَأْجُوجَ مُفْسِدُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَهَلْ نَجْعَلُ لَكَ خَرْجًا عَلَىٰٓ أَن تَجْعَلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ سَدًّۭا
18:94play_arrow
Qaaloo yaa Zal qarnaini inna Yaajooja wa Maajooja mufsidoona fil ardi fahal naj’alu laka kharjan ‘alaaa an taj’ala bainanaa wa bainahum saddaa
Sahih International:
They said, “O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?”

قَالَ مَا مَكَّنِّى فِيهِ رَبِّى خَيْرٌۭ فَأَعِينُونِى بِقُوَّةٍ أَجْعَلْ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُمْ رَدْمًا
18:95play_arrow
Qaala maa makkannee feehi Rabbee khairun fa-a’eenoonee biquwwatin aj’al bainakum wa bainahum radmaa
Sahih International:
He said, “That in which my Lord has established me is better [than what you offer], but assist me with strength; I will make between you and them a dam.

ءَاتُونِى زُبَرَ ٱلْحَدِيدِ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا سَاوَىٰ بَيْنَ ٱلصَّدَفَيْنِ قَالَ ٱنفُخُوا۟ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَعَلَهُۥ نَارًۭا قَالَ ءَاتُونِىٓ أُفْرِغْ عَلَيْهِ قِطْرًۭا
18:96play_arrow
Aatoonee zubaral hadeed, hattaaa izaa saawaa bainas sadafaini qaalan fukhoo hattaaa izaa ja’alahoo naaran qaala aatooneee ufrigh ‘alaihi qitraa
Sahih International:
Bring me sheets of iron” – until, when he had leveled [them] between the two mountain walls, he said, “Blow [with bellows],” until when he had made it [like] fire, he said, “Bring me, that I may pour over it molten copper.”

فَمَا ٱسْطَـٰعُوٓا۟ أَن يَظْهَرُوهُ وَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ لَهُۥ نَقْبًۭا
18:97play_arrow
Famas taa’ooo any yazharoohu wa mastataa’oo lahoo naqbaa
Sahih International:
So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration.

قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَحْمَةٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّى ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ رَبِّى جَعَلَهُۥ دَكَّآءَ ۖ وَكَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّى حَقًّۭا
18:98play_arrow
Qaala haaza rahmatummir Rabbee fa izaa jaaa’a wa’du Rabbee ja’alahoo dakkaaa’a; wa kaana; wa du Rabbee haqqaa
Sahih International:
[Dhul-Qarnayn] said, “This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it level, and ever is the promise of my Lord true.”

وَتَرَكْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَمُوجُ فِى بَعْضٍۢ ۖ وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَجَمَعْنَـٰهُمْ جَمْعًۭا
18:99play_arrow
Wa taraknaa ba’dahum Yawma’iziny yamooju fee ba’dinw wa nufikha fis Soori fajama’naahum jam’aa
Sahih International:
And We will leave them that day surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly.

وَعَرَضْنَا جَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ عَرْضًا
18:100play_arrow
Wa ‘aradnaa jahannama Yawma’izil lilkaafireena ‘ardaa
Sahih International:
And We will present Hell that Day to the Disbelievers, on display –

ٱلَّذِينَ كَانَتْ أَعْيُنُهُمْ فِى غِطَآءٍ عَن ذِكْرِى وَكَانُوا۟ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَمْعًا
18:101play_arrow
Allazeena kaanat a’yunuhum fee ghitaaa’in ‘an zikree wa kaanoo laa yastatee’oona sam’aa (section 11)
Sahih International:
Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear.

أَفَحَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَن يَتَّخِذُوا۟ عِبَادِى مِن دُونِىٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ ۚ إِنَّآ أَعْتَدْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ نُزُلًۭا
18:102play_arrow
Afahasibal lazeena kafarooo any yattakhizoo ‘ibaadee min dooneee awliyaaa’; innaaa a’tadnaa jahannama lil kaafireena nuzulaa
Sahih International:
Then do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants instead of Me as allies? Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as a lodging.

قُلْ هَلْ نُنَبِّئُكُم بِٱلْأَخْسَرِينَ أَعْمَـٰلًا
18:103play_arrow
Qul hal nunabbi’ukum bilakhsareena a’maalaa
Sahih International:
Say, [O Muhammad], “Shall we [believers] inform you of the greatest losers as to [their] deeds?

ٱلَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا
18:104play_arrow
Allazeena dalla sa’yuhum fil hayaatid dunyaa wa hum yahsaboona annahum yuhsinoona sun’aa
Sahih International:
[They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work.”

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَلِقَآئِهِۦ فَحَبِطَتْ أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ فَلَا نُقِيمُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وَزْنًۭا
18:105play_arrow
Ulaaa’ikal lazeena kafaroo bi aayaati Rabbihim wa liqaaa’ihee fahabitat a’maaluhum falaa nuqeemu lahum Yawmal Qiyaamati waznaa
Sahih International:
Those are the ones who disbelieve in the verses of their Lord and in [their] meeting Him, so their deeds have become worthless; and We will not assign to them on the Day of Resurrection any importance.

ذَٰلِكَ جَزَآؤُهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ بِمَا كَفَرُوا۟ وَٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ ءَايَـٰتِى وَرُسُلِى هُزُوًا
18:106play_arrow
Zaalika jazaaa’uhum jahannamu bimaa kafaroo wattakhazooo Aayaatee wa Rusulee huzuwaa
Sahih International:
That is their recompense – Hell – for what they denied and [because] they took My signs and My messengers in ridicule.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ كَانَتْ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتُ ٱلْفِرْدَوْسِ نُزُلًا
18:107play_arrow
Innal lazeena aamanoo wa ‘amilus saalihaati kaanat lahum Jannaatul Firdawsi nuzulaa
Sahih International:
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – they will have the Gardens of Paradise as a lodging,

خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا لَا يَبْغُونَ عَنْهَا حِوَلًۭا
18:108play_arrow
Khaalideena feeha laa yabghoona ‘anhaa hiwalaa
Sahih International:
Wherein they abide eternally. They will not desire from it any transfer.

قُل لَّوْ كَانَ ٱلْبَحْرُ مِدَادًۭا لِّكَلِمَـٰتِ رَبِّى لَنَفِدَ ٱلْبَحْرُ قَبْلَ أَن تَنفَدَ كَلِمَـٰتُ رَبِّى وَلَوْ جِئْنَا بِمِثْلِهِۦ مَدَدًۭا
18:109play_arrow
Qul law kaanal bahru midaadal li kalimaati Rabbee lanafidal bahru qabla an tanfada Kalimaatu Rabbee wa law ji’naa bimislihee madadaa
Sahih International:
Say, “If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it as a supplement.”

قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ بَشَرٌۭ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَـٰهُكُمْ إِلَـٰهٌۭ وَٰحِدٌۭ ۖ فَمَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا۟ لِقَآءَ رَبِّهِۦ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًۭا صَـٰلِحًۭا وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ أَحَدًۢا
18:110play_arrow
Qul innamaaa ana basharum mislukum yoohaaa ilaiya annamaa ilaahukum Ilaahunw Waahid; faman kaana yarjoo liqaaa’a Rabbihee falya’mal ‘amalan saalihanw wa laa yushrik bi’ibaadati Rabbiheee ahadaa (section 12)
Sahih International:
Say, “I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord – let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone.”

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem
Sahih International:
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

كٓهيعٓصٓ

Kaaaf-Haa-Yaa-‘Ayyyn-Saaad
Sahih International:
Kaf, Ha, Ya, ‘Ayn, Sad.

ذِكْرُ رَحْمَتِ رَبِّكَ عَبْدَهُۥ زَكَرِيَّآ
19:2play_arrow
Zikru rahmati Rabbika ‘abdahoo Zakariyya
Sahih International:
[This is] a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah

إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ نِدَآءً خَفِيًّۭا
19:3play_arrow
Iz naadaa Rabbahoo nidaaa’an khafiyyaa
Sahih International:
When he called to his Lord a private supplication.

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى وَهَنَ ٱلْعَظْمُ مِنِّى وَٱشْتَعَلَ ٱلرَّأْسُ شَيْبًۭا وَلَمْ أَكُنۢ بِدُعَآئِكَ رَبِّ شَقِيًّۭا
19:4play_arrow
Qaala Rabbi innee wahanal ‘azmu minnee washta ‘alar ra’su shaibanw wa lam akun bidu’aaa’ika Rabbi shaqiyyaa
Sahih International:
He said, “My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy.

وَإِنِّى خِفْتُ ٱلْمَوَٰلِىَ مِن وَرَآءِى وَكَانَتِ ٱمْرَأَتِى عَاقِرًۭا فَهَبْ لِى مِن لَّدُنكَ وَلِيًّۭا
19:5play_arrow
Wa innee khiftul mawaaliya minw waraaa’ee wa kaanat imra atee ‘aqiran fa hablee mil ladunka waliyyaa
Sahih International:
And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir

يَرِثُنِى وَيَرِثُ مِنْ ءَالِ يَعْقُوبَ ۖ وَٱجْعَلْهُ رَبِّ رَضِيًّۭا
19:6play_arrow
Yarisunee wa yarisu min aali Ya’qoob, waj’alhu Rabbi radiyya
Sahih International:
Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You].”

يَـٰزَكَرِيَّآ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَـٰمٍ ٱسْمُهُۥ يَحْيَىٰ لَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ مِن قَبْلُ سَمِيًّۭا
19:7play_arrow
Yaa Zakariyyaaa innaa nubashshiruka bi ghulaamin ismuhoo Yahyaa lam naj’al lahoo min qablu samiyyaa
Sahih International:
[He was told], “O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name.”

قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِى غُلَـٰمٌۭ وَكَانَتِ ٱمْرَأَتِى عَاقِرًۭا وَقَدْ بَلَغْتُ مِنَ ٱلْكِبَرِ عِتِيًّۭا
19:8play_arrow
Qaala Rabbi annaa yakoonu lee ghulaamunw wakaanat imra atee ‘aaqiranw wa qad balaghtu minal kibari ‘itiyyaa
Sahih International:
He said, “My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?”

قَالَ كَذَٰلِكَ قَالَ رَبُّكَ هُوَ عَلَىَّ هَيِّنٌۭ وَقَدْ خَلَقْتُكَ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَمْ تَكُ شَيْـًۭٔا
19:9play_arrow
Qaala kazaalika qaala Rabbuka huwa ‘alaiya haiyinunw wa qad khalaqtuka min qablu wa lam taku shai’aa
Sahih International:
[An angel] said, “Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.’ “

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱجْعَل لِّىٓ ءَايَةًۭ ۚ قَالَ ءَايَتُكَ أَلَّا تُكَلِّمَ ٱلنَّاسَ ثَلَـٰثَ لَيَالٍۢ سَوِيًّۭا

Qaala Rabbij ‘al leee Aayah; qaala Aayatuka allaa tukalliman naasa salaasa layaalin sawiyyaa
Sahih International:
[Zechariah] said, “My Lord, make for me a sign.” He said, “Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound.”

فَخَرَجَ عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلْمِحْرَابِ فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَيْهِمْ أَن سَبِّحُوا۟ بُكْرَةًۭ وَعَشِيًّۭا
19:11play_arrow
Fakharaja ‘alaa qawmihee minal mihraabi fa-awhaaa ilaihim an sabbihoo bukratanw wa ‘ashiyyaa
Sahih International:
So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon.

يَـٰيَحْيَىٰ خُذِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِقُوَّةٍۢ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلْحُكْمَ صَبِيًّۭا
19:12play_arrow
Yaa Yahyaa khuzil Kitaaba biquwwatinw wa aatainaahul hukma sabiyyaa
Sahih International:
[Allah] said, “O John, take the Scripture with determination.” And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy

وَحَنَانًۭا مِّن لَّدُنَّا وَزَكَوٰةًۭ ۖ وَكَانَ تَقِيًّۭا
19:13play_arrow
Wa hanaanam mil ladunnaa wa zakaatanw wa kaana taqiyyaa
Sahih International:
And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah

وَبَرًّۢا بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَكُن جَبَّارًا عَصِيًّۭا
19:14play_arrow
Wa barram biwaalidayhi wa lam yakum jabbaaran ‘asiyyaa
Sahih International:
And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant.

وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ وُلِدَ وَيَوْمَ يَمُوتُ وَيَوْمَ يُبْعَثُ حَيًّۭا
19:15play_arrow
Wa salaamun ‘alaihi yawma wulida wa yawma yamootu wa yawma yub’asu haiyyaa (section 1)
Sahih International:
And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive.

وَٱذْكُرْ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مَرْيَمَ إِذِ ٱنتَبَذَتْ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا مَكَانًۭا شَرْقِيًّۭا

Wazkur fil Kitaabi Maryma; izin tabazat min ahlihaa makaanan sharqiyyaa
Sahih International:
And mention, [O Muhammad], in the Book [the story of] Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place toward the east.

فَٱتَّخَذَتْ مِن دُونِهِمْ حِجَابًۭا فَأَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهَا رُوحَنَا فَتَمَثَّلَ لَهَا بَشَرًۭا سَوِيًّۭا

Fattakhazat min doonihim hijaaban fa arsalnaaa ilaihaa roohanaa fatamassala lahaa basharan sawiyyaa
Sahih International:
And she took, in seclusion from them, a screen. Then We sent to her Our Angel, and he represented himself to her as a well-proportioned man.

قَالَتْ إِنِّىٓ أَعُوذُ بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مِنكَ إِن كُنتَ تَقِيًّۭا
19:18play_arrow
Qaalat inneee a’oozu bir Rahmaani minka in kunta taqiyyaa
Sahih International:
She said, “Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, [so leave me], if you should be fearing of Allah.”

قَالَ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ رَسُولُ رَبِّكِ لِأَهَبَ لَكِ غُلَـٰمًۭا زَكِيًّۭا
19:19play_arrow
Qaala innamaa ana rasoolu Rabbiki li ahaba laki ghulaaman zakiyyaa
Sahih International:
He said, “I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy.”

قَالَتْ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِى غُلَـٰمٌۭ وَلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِى بَشَرٌۭ وَلَمْ أَكُ بَغِيًّۭا
19:20play_arrow
Qaalat anna yakoonu lee ghulaamunw wa lam yamsasnee bashrunw wa lam aku baghiyyaa
Sahih International:
She said, “How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?”

قَالَ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ هُوَ عَلَىَّ هَيِّنٌۭ ۖ وَلِنَجْعَلَهُۥٓ ءَايَةًۭ لِّلنَّاسِ وَرَحْمَةًۭ مِّنَّا ۚ وَكَانَ أَمْرًۭا مَّقْضِيًّۭا

Qaala kazaaliki qaala Rabbuki huwa ‘alaiya haiyimunw wa linaj ‘alahooo Aayatal linnaasi wa rahmatam minnaa; wa kaana amram maqdiyyaa
Sahih International:
He said, “Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.’ “

فَحَمَلَتْهُ فَٱنتَبَذَتْ بِهِۦ مَكَانًۭا قَصِيًّۭا
19:22play_arrow
Fahamalat hu fantabazat bihee makaanan qasiyyaa
Sahih International:
So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place.

فَأَجَآءَهَا ٱلْمَخَاضُ إِلَىٰ جِذْعِ ٱلنَّخْلَةِ قَالَتْ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى مِتُّ قَبْلَ هَـٰذَا وَكُنتُ نَسْيًۭا مَّنسِيًّۭا
19:23play_arrow
Fa ajaaa ‘ahal makhaadu ilaa jiz’in nakhlati qaalat yaa laitanee mittu qabla haazaa wa kuntu nasyam mansiyyaa
Sahih International:
And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, “Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten.”

فَنَادَىٰهَا مِن تَحْتِهَآ أَلَّا تَحْزَنِى قَدْ جَعَلَ رَبُّكِ تَحْتَكِ سَرِيًّۭا
19:24play_arrow
Fanaadaahaa min tahtihaaa allaa tahzanee qad ja’ala Rabbuki tahtaki sariyyaa
Sahih International:
But he called her from below her, “Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream.

وَهُزِّىٓ إِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ ٱلنَّخْلَةِ تُسَـٰقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَبًۭا جَنِيًّۭا
19:25play_arrow
Wa huzzeee ilaiki bijiz ‘in nakhlati tusaaqit ‘alaiki rutaban janiyyaa
Sahih International:
And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates.

فَكُلِى وَٱشْرَبِى وَقَرِّى عَيْنًۭا ۖ فَإِمَّا تَرَيِنَّ مِنَ ٱلْبَشَرِ أَحَدًۭا فَقُولِىٓ إِنِّى نَذَرْتُ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ صَوْمًۭا فَلَنْ أُكَلِّمَ ٱلْيَوْمَ إِنسِيًّۭا
19:26play_arrow
Fakulee washrabee wa qarree ‘ainaa; fa immaa tarayinnna minal bashari ahadan faqooleee innee nazartu lir Rahmaani sawman falan ukallimal yawma insiyyaa
Sahih International:
So eat and drink and be contented. And if you see from among humanity anyone, say, ‘Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful abstention, so I will not speak today to [any] man.’ “

فَأَتَتْ بِهِۦ قَوْمَهَا تَحْمِلُهُۥ ۖ قَالُوا۟ يَـٰمَرْيَمُ لَقَدْ جِئْتِ شَيْـًۭٔا فَرِيًّۭا
19:27play_arrow
Fa atat bihee qawmahaa tahmiluhoo qaaloo yaa Maryamoo laqad ji’ti shai’an fariyyaa
Sahih International:
Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, “O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented.

يَـٰٓأُخْتَ هَـٰرُونَ مَا كَانَ أَبُوكِ ٱمْرَأَ سَوْءٍۢ وَمَا كَانَتْ أُمُّكِ بَغِيًّۭا
19:28play_arrow
Yaaa ukhta Haaroona maa kaana abookimra’a saw’inw wa maa kaanat ummuki baghiyyaa
Sahih International:
O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste.”

فَأَشَارَتْ إِلَيْهِ ۖ قَالُوا۟ كَيْفَ نُكَلِّمُ مَن كَانَ فِى ٱلْمَهْدِ صَبِيًّۭا
19:29play_arrow
Fa ashaarat ilaih; qaaloo kaifa nukallimu man kaana fil mahdi sabiyyaa
Sahih International:
So she pointed to him. They said, “How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?”

قَالَ إِنِّى عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ ءَاتَىٰنِىَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَجَعَلَنِى نَبِيًّۭا
19:30play_arrow
Qaala innee ‘abdullaahi aataaniyal Kitaaba wa ja’alanee Nabiyyaa
Sahih International:
[Jesus] said, “Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.

وَجَعَلَنِى مُبَارَكًا أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُ وَأَوْصَـٰنِى بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَٱلزَّكَوٰةِ مَا دُمْتُ حَيًّۭا
19:31play_arrow
Wa ja’alanee mubaarakan aina maa kuntu wa awsaanee bis Salaati waz Zakaati maa dumtu haiyaa
Sahih International:
And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive

وَبَرًّۢا بِوَٰلِدَتِى وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْنِى جَبَّارًۭا شَقِيًّۭا
19:32play_arrow
Wa barram biwaalidatee wa lam yaj’alnee jabbaaran shaqiyyaa
Sahih International:
And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant.

وَٱلسَّلَـٰمُ عَلَىَّ يَوْمَ وُلِدتُّ وَيَوْمَ أَمُوتُ وَيَوْمَ أُبْعَثُ حَيًّۭا
19:33play_arrow
Wassalaamu ‘alaiya yawma wulidtu wa yawma amootu wa yawma ub’asu haiyaa
Sahih International:
And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive.”

ذَٰلِكَ عِيسَى ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ ۚ قَوْلَ ٱلْحَقِّ ٱلَّذِى فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ
19:34play_arrow
Zaalika ‘Eesab-nu Maryama; qawlal haqqil lazee feehi yamtaroon
Sahih International:
That is Jesus, the son of Mary – the word of truth about which they are in dispute.

مَا كَانَ لِلَّهِ أَن يَتَّخِذَ مِن وَلَدٍۢ ۖ سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥٓ ۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰٓ أَمْرًۭا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ
19:35play_arrow
Maa kaana lillaahi ai yattakhiza minw waladin Subhaanah; izaa qadaaa amran fa innamaa yaqoolu lahoo kun fa yakoon
Sahih International:
It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it, “Be,” and it is.

وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّى وَرَبُّكُمْ فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌۭ مُّسْتَقِيمٌۭ
19:36play_arrow
Wa innal laaha Rabbee wa Rabbukum fa’budooh; haazaa Siraatum Mustaqeem
Sahih International:
[Jesus said], “And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.”

فَٱخْتَلَفَ ٱلْأَحْزَابُ مِنۢ بَيْنِهِمْ ۖ فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن مَّشْهَدِ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
19:37play_arrow
Fakhtalafal ahzaabu min bainihim fawailul lillazeena kafaroo min mashhadi Yawmin ‘azeem
Sahih International:
Then the factions differed [concerning Jesus] from among them, so woe to those who disbelieved – from the scene of a tremendous Day.

أَسْمِعْ بِهِمْ وَأَبْصِرْ يَوْمَ يَأْتُونَنَا ۖ لَـٰكِنِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ٱلْيَوْمَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ
19:38play_arrow
Asmi’ bihim wa absir Yawma ya’toonanaa laakiniz zaalimoonal yawma fee dalaalin mubeen
Sahih International:
How [clearly] they will hear and see the Day they come to Us, but the wrongdoers today are in clear error.

وَأَنذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْحَسْرَةِ إِذْ قُضِىَ ٱلْأَمْرُ وَهُمْ فِى غَفْلَةٍۢ وَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
19:39play_arrow
Wa anzirhum Yawmal hasrati iz qudiyal amr; wa hum fee ghaflatinw wa hum laa yu’minoon
Sahih International:
And warn them, [O Muhammad], of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be concluded; and [yet], they are in [a state of] heedlessness, and they do not believe.

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَرِثُ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَنْ عَلَيْهَا وَإِلَيْنَا يُرْجَعُونَ
19:40play_arrow
Innaa nahnu narisul arda wa man ‘alaihaa wa ilainaa yurja’oon (section 2)
Sahih International:
Indeed, it is We who will inherit the earth and whoever is on it, and to Us they will be returned.

وَٱذْكُرْ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ صِدِّيقًۭا نَّبِيًّا
19:41play_arrow
Wazkur fil Kitaabi Ibraaheem; innahoo kaana siddeeqan Nabiyyaa
Sahih International:
And mention in the Book [the story of] Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ لِمَ تَعْبُدُ مَا لَا يَسْمَعُ وَلَا يُبْصِرُ وَلَا يُغْنِى عَنكَ شَيْـًۭٔا
19:42play_arrow
Iz qaala li abeehi yaaa abati lima ta’budu maa laa yasma’u wa laa yubsiru wa laa yughnee ‘anka shai’aa
Sahih International:
[Mention] when he said to his father, “O my father, why do you worship that which does not hear and does not see and will not benefit you at all?

يَـٰٓأَبَتِ إِنِّى قَدْ جَآءَنِى مِنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ مَا لَمْ يَأْتِكَ فَٱتَّبِعْنِىٓ أَهْدِكَ صِرَٰطًۭا سَوِيًّۭا
19:43play_arrow
Yaaa abati innee qad jaaa’anee minal ‘ilmi maa lam ya’tika fattabi’neee ahdika siraatan Sawiyyaa
Sahih International:
O my father, indeed there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to you, so follow me; I will guide you to an even path.

يَـٰٓأَبَتِ لَا تَعْبُدِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ كَانَ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ عَصِيًّۭا
19:44play_arrow
Yaaa abati laa ta’budish Shaitaan; innash Shaitaana kaana lir Rahmaani ‘asiyyaa
Sahih International:
O my father, do not worship Satan. Indeed Satan has ever been, to the Most Merciful, disobedient.

يَـٰٓأَبَتِ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ أَن يَمَسَّكَ عَذَابٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ فَتَكُونَ لِلشَّيْطَـٰنِ وَلِيًّۭا
19:45play_arrow
Yaaa abati innee akhaafu ai yamassaka ‘azaabum minar Rahmaani fatakoona lish Shaitaani waliyyaa
Sahih International:
O my father, indeed I fear that there will touch you a punishment from the Most Merciful so you would be to Satan a companion [in Hellfire].”

قَالَ أَرَاغِبٌ أَنتَ عَنْ ءَالِهَتِى يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ ۖ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ لَأَرْجُمَنَّكَ ۖ وَٱهْجُرْنِى مَلِيًّۭا
19:46play_arrow
Qaala araaghibun anta ‘an aalihatee yaaa Ibraaheemu la ‘il lam tantahi la arjumannaka wahjurnee maliyyaa
Sahih International:
[His father] said, “Have you no desire for my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I will surely stone you, so avoid me a prolonged time.”

قَالَ سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكَ ۖ سَأَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكَ رَبِّىٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِى حَفِيًّۭا
19:47play_arrow
Qaala salaamun ‘alaika sa astaghfiru laka Rabbeee innahoo kaana bee hafiyyaa
Sahih International:
[Abraham] said, “Peace will be upon you. I will ask forgiveness for you of my Lord. Indeed, He is ever gracious to me.

وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَدْعُوا۟ رَبِّى عَسَىٰٓ أَلَّآ أَكُونَ بِدُعَآءِ رَبِّى شَقِيًّۭا
19:48play_arrow
Wa a’tazilukum wa maa tad’oona min doonil laahi wa ad’oo Rabbee ‘asaaa allaaa akoona bidu’aaa’i Rabbee shaqiyyaa
Sahih International:
And I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allah and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy.”

فَلَمَّا ٱعْتَزَلَهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ ۖ وَكُلًّۭا جَعَلْنَا نَبِيًّۭا
19:49play_arrow
Fa lam ma’tazalahum wa maa ya’budoona min doonil laahi wahabnaa lahoo is-haaqa wa ya’qoob; wa kullan ja’alnaa Nabiyyaa
Sahih International:
So when he had left them and those they worshipped other than Allah, We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and each [of them] We made a prophet.

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُم مِّن رَّحْمَتِنَا وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ عَلِيًّۭا
19:50play_arrow
Wa wahabnaa lahum mirrahmatinaa wa ja’alnaa lahum lisaana sidqin ‘aliyyaa (section 3)
Sahih International:
And We gave them of Our mercy, and we made for them a reputation of high honor.

وَٱذْكُرْ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مُوسَىٰٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مُخْلَصًۭا وَكَانَ رَسُولًۭا نَّبِيًّۭا
19:51play_arrow
Wazkur fil Kitaabi Moosaaa; innahoo kaana mukhlasanw wa kaana Rasoolan Nabiyyaa
Sahih International:
And mention in the Book, Moses. Indeed, he was chosen, and he was a messenger and a prophet.

وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ مِن جَانِبِ ٱلطُّورِ ٱلْأَيْمَنِ وَقَرَّبْنَـٰهُ نَجِيًّۭا
19:52play_arrow
Wa naadainaahu min jaanibit Tooril aimani wa qarrabnaahu najiyyaa
Sahih International:
And We called him from the side of the mount at [his] right and brought him near, confiding [to him].

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥ مِن رَّحْمَتِنَآ أَخَاهُ هَـٰرُونَ نَبِيًّۭا
19:53play_arrow
Wa wahabnaa lahoo mir rahmatinaaa akhaahu Haaroona Nabiyyaa
Sahih International:
And We gave him out of Our mercy his brother Aaron as a prophet.

وَٱذْكُرْ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ صَادِقَ ٱلْوَعْدِ وَكَانَ رَسُولًۭا نَّبِيًّۭا
19:54play_arrow
Wazkur fil Kitaabi ismaa’eel; innahoo kaana saadiqal wa’di wa kaana Rasoolan Nabiyyaa
Sahih International:
And mention in the Book, Ishmael. Indeed, he was true to his promise, and he was a messenger and a prophet.

وَكَانَ يَأْمُرُ أَهْلَهُۥ بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَٱلزَّكَوٰةِ وَكَانَ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦ مَرْضِيًّۭا
19:55play_arrow
Wa kaana ya’muru ahlahoo bis Salaati waz zakaati wa kaana ‘inda Rabbihee mardiyyaa
Sahih International:
And he used to enjoin on his people prayer and zakah and was to his Lord pleasing.

وَٱذْكُرْ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ إِدْرِيسَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ صِدِّيقًۭا نَّبِيًّۭا
19:56play_arrow
Wazkur fil Kitaabi Idrees; innahoo kaana siddeeqan Nabiyyaa
Sahih International:
And mention in the Book, Idrees. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.

وَرَفَعْنَـٰهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا
19:57play_arrow
Wa rafa’naahu makaanan ‘aliyyaa
Sahih International:
And We raised him to a high station.

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ مِن ذُرِّيَّةِ ءَادَمَ وَمِمَّنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍۢ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّةِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَمِمَّنْ هَدَيْنَا وَٱجْتَبَيْنَآ ۚ إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ خَرُّوا۟ سُجَّدًا وَبُكِيًّا ۩ا
19:58play_arrow
Ulaaa’ikal lazeena an’amal laahu ‘alaihim minan Nabiyyeena min zurriyyati Aadama wa mimman hamalnaa ma’a Noohinw wa min zurriyyati Ibraaheema wa Israaa’eela wa mimman hadainaa wajta bainaaa; izaa tutlaa ‘alaihim Aayaatur Rahmaani kharroo sujjadanw wa bukiyyaa (make sajda)
Sahih International:
Those were the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.

فَخَلَفَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ أَضَاعُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَلْقَوْنَ غَيًّا
19:59play_arrow
Fakhalafa min ba’dihim khalfun adaa’us Salaata wattaba’ush shahawaati fasawfa yalqawna ghaiyyaa
Sahih International:
But there came after them successors who neglected prayer and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil –

إِلَّا مَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ شَيْـًۭٔا
19:60play_arrow
Illaa man taaba wa aamana wa ‘amila saalihan fa ulaaa’ika yadkhuloonal jannata wa laa yuzlamoona shai’aa
Sahih International:
Except those who repent, believe and do righteousness; for those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged at all.

جَنَّـٰتِ عَدْنٍ ٱلَّتِى وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ عِبَادَهُۥ بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ وَعْدُهُۥ مَأْتِيًّۭا
19:61play_arrow
Jannaati ‘adninil latee wa’adar Rahmaanu ibaadahoo bilghaib; innahoo kaana wa’duhoo ma’tiyyaa
Sahih International:
[Therein are] gardens of perpetual residence which the Most Merciful has promised His servants in the unseen. Indeed, His promise has ever been coming.

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا إِلَّا سَلَـٰمًۭا ۖ وَلَهُمْ رِزْقُهُمْ فِيهَا بُكْرَةًۭ وَعَشِيًّۭا
19:62play_arrow
Laa yasma’oona feehaa laghwan illaa salaamaa; wa lahum rizquhum feehaa bukratanw wa ‘ashiyyaa
Sahih International:
They will not hear therein any ill speech – only [greetings of] peace – and they will have their provision therein, morning and afternoon.

تِلْكَ ٱلْجَنَّةُ ٱلَّتِى نُورِثُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا مَن كَانَ تَقِيًّۭا
19:63play_arrow
Tilkal jannatul latee noorisu min ‘ibaadinaa man kaana taqiyyaa
Sahih International:
That is Paradise, which We give as inheritance to those of Our servants who were fearing of Allah.

وَمَا نَتَنَزَّلُ إِلَّا بِأَمْرِ رَبِّكَ ۖ لَهُۥ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا وَمَا خَلْفَنَا وَمَا بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ ۚ وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ نَسِيًّۭا
19:64play_arrow
Wa maa natanazzalu illaa bi amri Rabbika lahoo maa baina aideenaa wa maa khalfanaa wa maa baina zaalik; wa maa kaana Rabbuka nasiyyaa
Sahih International:
[Gabriel said], “And we [angels] descend not except by the order of your Lord. To Him belongs that before us and that behind us and what is in between. And never is your Lord forgetful –

رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَٱعْبُدْهُ وَٱصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَـٰدَتِهِۦ ۚ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُۥ سَمِيًّۭا
19:65play_arrow
Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi wa maa bainahumaa fa’bud hu wastabir li’ibaadatih; hal ta’lamu lahoo samiyyaa (section 4)
Sahih International:
Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them – so worship Him and have patience for His worship. Do you know of any similarity to Him?”

وَيَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَءِذَا مَا مِتُّ لَسَوْفَ أُخْرَجُ حَيًّا
19:66play_arrow
Wa yaqoolul insaanu ‘a izaa maa mittu lasawfa ukhraju haiyaa
Sahih International:
And the disbeliever says, “When I have died, am I going to be brought forth alive?”

أَوَلَا يَذْكُرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَمْ يَكُ شَيْـًۭٔا
19:67play_arrow
‘A wa laa yazkurul insaanu annaa khalaqnaahu min qablu wa lam yaku shai’aa
Sahih International:
Does man not remember that We created him before, while he was nothing?

فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَحْشُرَنَّهُمْ وَٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ ثُمَّ لَنُحْضِرَنَّهُمْ حَوْلَ جَهَنَّمَ جِثِيًّۭا
19:68play_arrow
Fawa Rabbika lanahshu rannahum wash shayaateena summa lanuhdirannahum hawla jahannama jisiyyaa
Sahih International:
So by your Lord, We will surely gather them and the devils; then We will bring them to be present around Hell upon their knees.

ثُمَّ لَنَنزِعَنَّ مِن كُلِّ شِيعَةٍ أَيُّهُمْ أَشَدُّ عَلَى ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ عِتِيًّۭا
19:69play_arrow
Summa lanan zi’anna min kulli shee’atin aiyuhum ashaddu ‘alar Rahmaani ‘itiyyaa
Sahih International:
Then We will surely extract from every sect those of them who were worst against the Most Merciful in insolence.

ثُمَّ لَنَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ أَوْلَىٰ بِهَا صِلِيًّۭا
19:70play_arrow
Summa lanahnu a’lamu billazeena hum awlaa bihaa siliyyaa
Sahih International:
Then, surely it is We who are most knowing of those most worthy of burning therein.

وَإِن مِّنكُمْ إِلَّا وَارِدُهَا ۚ كَانَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ حَتْمًۭا مَّقْضِيًّۭا
19:71play_arrow
Wa in minkum illaa waariduhaa; kaana ‘alaa Rabbika hatmam maqdiyyaa
Sahih International:
And there is none of you except he will come to it. This is upon your Lord an inevitability decreed.

ثُمَّ نُنَجِّى ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوا۟ وَّنَذَرُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ فِيهَا جِثِيًّۭا
19:72play_arrow
Summa nunajjil lazeenat taqaw wa nazaruz zaalimeena feehaa jisiyyaa
Sahih International:
Then We will save those who feared Allah and leave the wrongdoers within it, on their knees.

وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتُنَا بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَىُّ ٱلْفَرِيقَيْنِ خَيْرٌۭ مَّقَامًۭا وَأَحْسَنُ نَدِيًّۭا
19:73play_arrow
Wa izaa tutlaa ‘alaihim Aayaatunaa baiyinaatin qaalal lazeena kafaroo lillazeena aamanooo aiyul fareeqaini khairum maqaamanw wa ahsanu nadiyyaa
Sahih International:
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, “Which of [our] two parties is best in position and best in association?”

وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هُمْ أَحْسَنُ أَثَـٰثًۭا وَرِءْيًۭا
19:74play_arrow
Wa kam ahlaknaa qablahum min qarnin hum ahsanu asaasanw wa ri’yaa
Sahih International:
And how many a generation have We destroyed before them who were better in possessions and [outward] appearance?

قُلْ مَن كَانَ فِى ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةِ فَلْيَمْدُدْ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ مَدًّا ۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوْا۟ مَا يُوعَدُونَ إِمَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ وَإِمَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ شَرٌّۭ مَّكَانًۭا وَأَضْعَفُ جُندًۭا
19:75play_arrow
Qul man kaana fidda laalati falyamdud lahur Rahmaanu maddaa; hattaaa izaa ra aw maa yoo’adoona immal ‘azaaba wa immas Saa’ata fasa ya’lamoona man huwa sharrum makaananw wa ad’afu jundaa
Sahih International:
Say, “Whoever is in error – let the Most Merciful extend for him an extension [in wealth and time] until, when they see that which they were promised – either punishment [in this world] or the Hour [of resurrection] – they will come to know who is worst in position and weaker in soldiers.”

وَيَزِيدُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱهْتَدَوْا۟ هُدًۭى ۗ وَٱلْبَـٰقِيَـٰتُ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ خَيْرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًۭا وَخَيْرٌۭ مَّرَدًّا
19:76play_arrow
Wa yazeedul laahul lazeenah tadaw hudaa; wal baaqiyaatus saalihaatu khairun ‘inda Rabbika sawaabanw wa khairum maraddaa
Sahih International:
And Allah increases those who were guided, in guidance, and the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for recourse.

أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى كَفَرَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَقَالَ لَأُوتَيَنَّ مَالًۭا وَوَلَدًا
19:77play_arrow
Afara’aytal lazee kafara bi Aayaatinaa wa qaala la oota yanna maalanw wa waladaa
Sahih International:
Then, have you seen he who disbelieved in Our verses and said, “I will surely be given wealth and children [in the next life]?”

أَطَّلَعَ ٱلْغَيْبَ أَمِ ٱتَّخَذَ عِندَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ عَهْدًۭا
19:78play_arrow
‘At tala’al ghaiba ‘amit takhaza ‘indar Rahmaani ‘ahdaa
Sahih International:
Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken from the Most Merciful a promise?

كَلَّا ۚ سَنَكْتُبُ مَا يَقُولُ وَنَمُدُّ لَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ مَدًّۭا
19:79play_arrow
Kallaa; sanaktubu maa yaqoolu wa namuddu lahoo minal ‘azaabi maddaa
Sahih International:
No! We will record what he says and extend for him from the punishment extensively.

وَنَرِثُهُۥ مَا يَقُولُ وَيَأْتِينَا فَرْدًۭا
19:80play_arrow
Wa narisuhoo maa yaqoolu wa ya’teenaa fardaa
Sahih International:
And We will inherit him [in] what he mentions, and he will come to Us alone.

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةًۭ لِّيَكُونُوا۟ لَهُمْ عِزًّۭا
19:81play_arrow
Wattakhazoo min doonil laahi aalihatal liyakoonoo lahum ‘izzaa
Sahih International:
And they have taken besides Allah [false] deities that they would be for them [a source of] honor.

كَلَّا ۚ سَيَكْفُرُونَ بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ وَيَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضِدًّا
19:82play_arrow
Kallaa; sa yakfuroona bi’ibaadatihim wa yakoonoona ‘alaihim diddaa (section 5)
Sahih International:
No! Those “gods” will deny their worship of them and will be against them opponents [on the Day of Judgement].

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ تَؤُزُّهُمْ أَزًّۭا
19:83play_arrow
Alam tara annaaa arsalnash Shayaateena ‘alal kaafireena ta’uzzuhum azzaa
Sahih International:
Do you not see that We have sent the devils upon the disbelievers, inciting them to [evil] with [constant] incitement?

فَلَا تَعْجَلْ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا نَعُدُّ لَهُمْ عَدًّۭا
19:84play_arrow
Falaa ta’jal alaihim innamaa na ‘uddu lahum ‘addaa
Sahih International:
So be not impatient over them. We only count out to them a [limited] number.

يَوْمَ نَحْشُرُ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ إِلَى ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ وَفْدًۭا
19:85play_arrow
Yawma nahshurul muttaqeena ilar Rahmaani wafdaa
Sahih International:
On the Day We will gather the righteous to the Most Merciful as a delegation

وَنَسُوقُ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ وِرْدًۭا
19:86play_arrow
Wa nasooqul mujrimeena ilaa Jahannama wirdaa
Sahih International:
And will drive the criminals to Hell in thirst

لَّا يَمْلِكُونَ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةَ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّخَذَ عِندَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ عَهْدًۭا
19:87play_arrow
Laa yamlikoonash shafaa’ata illaa manittakhaza ‘indar Rahmaani ‘ahdaa
Sahih International:
None will have [power of] intercession except he who had taken from the Most Merciful a covenant.

وَقَالُوا۟ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَلَدًۭا
19:88play_arrow
Wa qaalut takhazar Rahmaanu waladaa
Sahih International:
And they say, “The Most Merciful has taken [for Himself] a son.”

لَّقَدْ جِئْتُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِدًّۭا
19:89play_arrow
Laqad ji’tum shai’an iddaa
Sahih International:
You have done an atrocious thing.

تَكَادُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ يَتَفَطَّرْنَ مِنْهُ وَتَنشَقُّ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَتَخِرُّ ٱلْجِبَالُ هَدًّا
19:90play_arrow
Takaadus samaawaatu yatafattarna minhu wa tanshaq qul ardu wa takhirrul jibaalu haddaa
Sahih International:
The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation

أَن دَعَوْا۟ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ وَلَدًۭا
19:91play_arrow
An da’aw lir Rahmaani waladaa
Sahih International:
That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son.

وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ أَن يَتَّخِذَ وَلَدًا
19:92play_arrow
Wa maa yambaghee lir Rahmaani ai yattakhiza waladaa
Sahih International:
And it is not appropriate for the Most Merciful that He should take a son.

إِن كُلُّ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَّآ ءَاتِى ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ عَبْدًۭا
19:93play_arrow
In kullu man fis samaawaati wal ardi illaaa aatir Rahmaani ‘abdaa
Sahih International:
There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant.

لَّقَدْ أَحْصَىٰهُمْ وَعَدَّهُمْ عَدًّۭا
19:94play_arrow
Laqad ahsaahum wa addahum ‘addaa
Sahih International:
He has enumerated them and counted them a [full] counting.

وَكُلُّهُمْ ءَاتِيهِ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ فَرْدًا
19:95play_arrow
Wa kulluhum aateehi Yawmal Qiyaamati fardaa
Sahih International:
And all of them are coming to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ سَيَجْعَلُ لَهُمُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وُدًّۭا
19:96play_arrow
Innal lazeena aamanoo wa ‘amilus saalihaati sa yaj’alu lahumur Rahmaanu wuddaa
Sahih International:
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds – the Most Merciful will appoint for them affection.

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَـٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لِتُبَشِّرَ بِهِ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ وَتُنذِرَ بِهِۦ قَوْمًۭا لُّدًّۭا
19:97play_arrow
Fa innamaa yassarnaahu bilisaanika litubashshira bihil muttaqeena wa tunzira bihee qawmal luddaa
Sahih International:
So, [O Muhammad], We have only made Qur’an easy in the Arabic language that you may give good tidings thereby to the righteous and warn thereby a hostile people.

وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هَلْ تُحِسُّ مِنْهُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ أَوْ تَسْمَعُ لَهُمْ رِكْزًۢا
19:98play_arrow
Wa kam ahlaknaa qabla hum min qarnin hal tuhissu minhum min ahadin aw tasma’u lahum rikzaa (section 6)
Sahih International:
And how many have We destroyed before them of generations? Do you perceive of them anyone or hear from them a sound?

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem
Sahih International:
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

طه

Taa-Haa
Sahih International:
Ta, Ha.

مَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِتَشْقَىٰٓ
20:2play_arrow
Maaa anzalnaa ‘alaikal Qur-aana litashqaaa
Sahih International:
We have not sent down to you the Qur’an that you be distressed

إِلَّا تَذْكِرَةًۭ لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰ
20:3play_arrow
Illaa tazkiratal limany yakhshaa
Sahih International:
But only as a reminder for those who fear [Allah] –

تَنزِيلًۭا مِّمَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ ٱلْعُلَى
20:4play_arrow
Tanzeelam mimman khalaqal arda was samaawaatil ‘ulaa
Sahih International:
A revelation from He who created the earth and highest heavens,

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱسْتَوَىٰ
20:5play_arrow
Ar-Rahmaanu ‘alal ‘Arshis tawaa
Sahih International:
The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.

لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمَا تَحْتَ ٱلثَّرَىٰ
20:6play_arrow
Lahoo maa fis samaawaati wa maa fil ardi wa maa bainahumaa wa maa tahtassaraa
Sahih International:
To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth and what is between them and what is under the soil.

وَإِن تَجْهَرْ بِٱلْقَوْلِ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلسِّرَّ وَأَخْفَى
20:7play_arrow
Wa in tajhar bilqawli fainnahoo ya’lamus sirra wa akhfaa
Sahih International:
And if you speak aloud – then indeed, He knows the secret and what is [even] more hidden.

ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ لَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
20:8play_arrow
Allaahu laaa ilaaha illaa huwa lahul asmaa’ul husnaa
Sahih International:
Allah – there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names.

وَهَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ
20:9play_arrow
Wa hal ataaka hadeesu Moosa
Sahih International:
And has the story of Moses reached you? –

إِذْ رَءَا نَارًۭا فَقَالَ لِأَهْلِهِ ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟ إِنِّىٓ ءَانَسْتُ نَارًۭا لَّعَلِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم مِّنْهَا بِقَبَسٍ أَوْ أَجِدُ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ هُدًۭى
20:10play_arrow
Iz ra aa naaran faqaala li ahlihim kusooo inneee aanastu naaral la’alleee aateekum minhaa biqabasin aw ajidu ‘alan naari hudaa
Sahih International:
When he saw a fire and said to his family, “Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire; perhaps I can bring you a torch or find at the fire some guidance.”

فَلَمَّآ أَتَىٰهَا نُودِىَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
20:11play_arrow
Falammaaa ataahaa noodiya yaa Moosaa
Sahih International:
And when he came to it, he was called, “O Moses,

إِنِّىٓ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكَ فَٱخْلَعْ نَعْلَيْكَ ۖ إِنَّكَ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًۭى
20:12play_arrow
Inneee Ana Rabbuka fakhla’ na’laika innaka bilwaadil muqaddasi Tuwaa
Sahih International:
Indeed, I am your Lord, so remove your sandals. Indeed, you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa.

وَأَنَا ٱخْتَرْتُكَ فَٱسْتَمِعْ لِمَا يُوحَىٰٓ
20:13play_arrow
Wa anakhtartuka fastami’ limaa yoohaa
Sahih International:
And I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed [to you].

إِنَّنِىٓ أَنَا ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعْبُدْنِى وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِذِكْرِىٓ
20:14play_arrow
Innaneee Anal laahu laaa ilaaha illaa Ana fa’budnee wa aqimis-salaata lizikree
Sahih International:
Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.

إِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ ءَاتِيَةٌ أَكَادُ أُخْفِيهَا لِتُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا تَسْعَىٰ
20:15play_arrow
Innas Saa’ata aatiyatun akaadu ukhfeehaa litujzaa kullu nafsin bimaa tas’aa
Sahih International:
Indeed, the Hour is coming – I almost conceal it – so that every soul may be recompensed according to that for which it strives.

فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكَ عَنْهَا مَن لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِهَا وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ فَتَرْدَىٰ
20:16play_arrow
Falaa yasuddannaka ‘anhaa mal laa yu’minu bihaa wattaba’a hawaahu fatardaa
Sahih International:
So do not let one avert you from it who does not believe in it and follows his desire, for you [then] would perish.

وَمَا تِلْكَ بِيَمِينِكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
20:17play_arrow
Wa maa tilka bi yamee nika yaa Moosaa
Sahih International:
And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?”

قَالَ هِىَ عَصَاىَ أَتَوَكَّؤُا۟ عَلَيْهَا وَأَهُشُّ بِهَا عَلَىٰ غَنَمِى وَلِىَ فِيهَا مَـَٔارِبُ أُخْرَىٰ
20:18play_arrow
Qaala hiya ‘asaaya atawakka’u alaihaa wa ahushshu bihaa ‘alaa ghanamee wa liya feehaa ma aaribu ukhraa
Sahih International:
He said, “It is my staff; I lean upon it, and I bring down leaves for my sheep and I have therein other uses.”

قَالَ أَلْقِهَا يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
20:19play_arrow
Qaala alqihaa yaa Moosaa
Sahih International:
[Allah] said, “Throw it down, O Moses.”

فَأَلْقَىٰهَا فَإِذَا هِىَ حَيَّةٌۭ تَسْعَىٰ
20:20play_arrow
Fa-alqaahaa fa -izaa hiya haiyatun tas’aa
Sahih International:
So he threw it down, and thereupon it was a snake, moving swiftly.

قَالَ خُذْهَا وَلَا تَخَفْ ۖ سَنُعِيدُهَا سِيرَتَهَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
20:21play_arrow
Qaala khuzhaa wa laa ta khaf sanu’eeduhaa seeratahal oolaa
Sahih International:
[Allah] said, “Seize it and fear not; We will return it to its former condition.

وَٱضْمُمْ يَدَكَ إِلَىٰ جَنَاحِكَ تَخْرُجْ بَيْضَآءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سُوٓءٍ ءَايَةً أُخْرَىٰ
20:22play_arrow
Wadmum yadaka ilaa janaahika takhruj baidaaa’a min ghairi sooo’in Aayatan ukhraa
Sahih International:
And draw in your hand to your side; it will come out white without disease – another sign,

لِنُرِيَكَ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا ٱلْكُبْرَى
20:23play_arrow
Linuriyaka min Aayaatinal Kubra
Sahih International:
That We may show you [some] of Our greater signs.

ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
20:24play_arrow
Izhab ilaa Fir’awna innahoo taghaa (section 1)
Sahih International:
Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.”

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱشْرَحْ لِى صَدْرِى
20:25play_arrow
Qaala Rabbish rah lee sadree
Sahih International:
[Moses] said, “My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance]

وَيَسِّرْ لِىٓ أَمْرِى
20:26play_arrow
Wa yassir leee amree
Sahih International:
And ease for me my task

وَٱحْلُلْ عُقْدَةًۭ مِّن لِّسَانِى
20:27play_arrow
Wahlul ‘uqdatan milli saanee
Sahih International:
And untie the knot from my tongue

يَفْقَهُوا۟ قَوْلِى
20:28play_arrow
Yafqahoo qawlee
Sahih International:
That they may understand my speech.

وَٱجْعَل لِّى وَزِيرًۭا مِّنْ أَهْلِى
20:29play_arrow
Waj’al lee wazeeran min ahlee
Sahih International:
And appoint for me a minister from my family –

هَـٰرُونَ أَخِى
20:30play_arrow
Haaroona akhee
Sahih International:
Aaron, my brother.

ٱشْدُدْ بِهِۦٓ أَزْرِى
20:31play_arrow
Ushdud biheee azree
Sahih International:
Increase through him my strength

وَأَشْرِكْهُ فِىٓ أَمْرِى
20:32play_arrow
Wa ashrik hu feee amree
Sahih International:
And let him share my task

كَىْ نُسَبِّحَكَ كَثِيرًۭا
20:33play_arrow
Kai nusabbihaka kaseeraa
Sahih International:
That we may exalt You much

وَنَذْكُرَكَ كَثِيرًا
20:34play_arrow
Wa nazkuraka kaseeraa
Sahih International:
And remember You much.

إِنَّكَ كُنتَ بِنَا بَصِيرًۭا
20:35play_arrow
Innaka kunta binaa baseeraa
Sahih International:
Indeed, You are of us ever Seeing.”

قَالَ قَدْ أُوتِيتَ سُؤْلَكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
20:36play_arrow
Qaala qad ooteeta su’laka yaa Moosaa
Sahih International:
[Allah] said, “You have been granted your request, O Moses.

وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَيْكَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَىٰٓ
20:37play_arrow
Wa laqad manannaa ‘alaika marratan ukhraaa
Sahih International:
And We had already conferred favor upon you another time,

إِذْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ
20:38play_arrow
Iz awhainaaa ilaaa ummika maa yoohaaa
Sahih International:
When We inspired to your mother what We inspired,

أَنِ ٱقْذِفِيهِ فِى ٱلتَّابُوتِ فَٱقْذِفِيهِ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ فَلْيُلْقِهِ ٱلْيَمُّ بِٱلسَّاحِلِ يَأْخُذْهُ عَدُوٌّۭ لِّى وَعَدُوٌّۭ لَّهُۥ ۚ وَأَلْقَيْتُ عَلَيْكَ مَحَبَّةًۭ مِّنِّى وَلِتُصْنَعَ عَلَىٰ عَيْنِىٓ

‘Aniqzifeehi fit Taabooti faqzifeehi fil yammi fal yul qihil yammu bis saahili ya’khuzhu ‘aduwwul lee wa ‘aduwwul lah; wa alqaitu ‘alaika mahabbatan minnee wa litusna’a ‘alaa ‘ainee
Sahih International:
[Saying], ‘Cast him into the chest and cast it into the river, and the river will throw it onto the bank; there will take him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him.’ And I bestowed upon you love from Me that you would be brought up under My eye.

إِذْ تَمْشِىٓ أُخْتُكَ فَتَقُولُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَىٰ مَن يَكْفُلُهُۥ ۖ فَرَجَعْنَـٰكَ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ كَىْ تَقَرَّ عَيْنُهَا وَلَا تَحْزَنَ ۚ وَقَتَلْتَ نَفْسًۭا فَنَجَّيْنَـٰكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَمِّ وَفَتَنَّـٰكَ فُتُونًۭا ۚ فَلَبِثْتَ سِنِينَ فِىٓ أَهْلِ مَدْيَنَ ثُمَّ جِئْتَ عَلَىٰ قَدَرٍۢ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
20:40play_arrow
Iz tamsheee ukhtuka fataqoolu hal adullukum ‘alaa mai yakfuluhoo faraja ‘naaka ilaaa ummika kai taqarra ‘ainuhaa wa laa tahzan; wa qatalta nafsan fanajjainaaka minal ghammi wa fatannaaka futoonaa; falabista sineena feee ahli Madyana summa ji’ta ‘alaa qadariny yaa Moosa
Sahih International:
[And We favored you] when your sister went and said, ‘Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?’ So We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe] trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came [here] at the decreed time, O Moses.

وَٱصْطَنَعْتُكَ لِنَفْسِى
20:41play_arrow
Wastana’ tuka linafsee
Sahih International:
And I produced you for Myself.

ٱذْهَبْ أَنتَ وَأَخُوكَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِى وَلَا تَنِيَا فِى ذِكْرِى
20:42play_arrow
Izhab anta wa akhooka bi Aayaatee wa laa taniyaa fee zikree
Sahih International:
Go, you and your brother, with My signs and do not slacken in My remembrance.

ٱذْهَبَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
20:43play_arrow
Izhabaaa ilaa Fir’awna innahoo taghaa
Sahih International:
Go, both of you, to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.

فَقُولَا لَهُۥ قَوْلًۭا لَّيِّنًۭا لَّعَلَّهُۥ يَتَذَكَّرُ أَوْ يَخْشَىٰ
20:44play_arrow
Faqoolaa lahoo qawlal laiyinal la allahoo yatazakkkaru ‘aw yakhshaa
Sahih International:
And speak to him with gentle speech that perhaps he may be reminded or fear [Allah].”

قَالَا رَبَّنَآ إِنَّنَا نَخَافُ أَن يَفْرُطَ عَلَيْنَآ أَوْ أَن يَطْغَىٰ
20:45play_arrow
Qaalaa Rabbanaaa innanaa nakhaafu ai yafruta ‘alainaaa aw ai yatghaa
Sahih International:
They said, “Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will hasten [punishment] against us or that he will transgress.”

قَالَ لَا تَخَافَآ ۖ إِنَّنِى مَعَكُمَآ أَسْمَعُ وَأَرَىٰ
20:46play_arrow
Qaala laa takhaafaaa innanee ma’akumaa asma’u wa araa
Sahih International:
[Allah] said, “Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see.

فَأْتِيَاهُ فَقُولَآ إِنَّا رَسُولَا رَبِّكَ فَأَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَا تُعَذِّبْهُمْ ۖ قَدْ جِئْنَـٰكَ بِـَٔايَةٍۢ مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۖ وَٱلسَّلَـٰمُ عَلَىٰ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
20:47play_arrow
Faatiyaahu faqoolaaa innaa Rasoolaa Rabbika fa arsil ma’anaa Banee Israaa’eela wa laa tu’azzibhum qad ji’naaka bi Aayatim mir Rabbika wassa laamu ‘alaa manit taba’al hudaa
Sahih International:
So go to him and say, ‘Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord, so send with us the Children of Israel and do not torment them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord. And peace will be upon he who follows the guidance.

إِنَّا قَدْ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْنَآ أَنَّ ٱلْعَذَابَ عَلَىٰ مَن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
20:48play_arrow
Innaa qad oohiya ilainaaa annnal ‘azaaba ‘alaa man kaz zaba wa tawalla
Sahih International:
Indeed, it has been revealed to us that the punishment will be upon whoever denies and turns away.’ “

قَالَ فَمَن رَّبُّكُمَا يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
20:49play_arrow
Qaala famar Rabbu kumaa yaa Moosa
Sahih International:
[Pharaoh] said, “So who is the Lord of you two, O Moses?”

قَالَ رَبُّنَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَعْطَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلْقَهُۥ ثُمَّ هَدَىٰ
20:50play_arrow
Qaala Rabbunal lazeee a’taa kulla shai’in khalqahoo summa hadaa
Sahih International:
He said, “Our Lord is He who gave each thing its form and then guided [it].”

قَالَ فَمَا بَالُ ٱلْقُرُونِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ
20:51play_arrow
Qaala famaa baalul quroonil oolaa
Sahih International:
[Pharaoh] said, “Then what is the case of the former generations?”

قَالَ عِلْمُهَا عِندَ رَبِّى فِى كِتَـٰبٍۢ ۖ لَّا يَضِلُّ رَبِّى وَلَا يَنسَى
20:52play_arrow
Qaala ‘ilmuhaa ‘inda Rabee fee kitaab, laa yadillu Rabbee wa laa yansaa
Sahih International:
[Moses] said, “The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets.”

ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ مَهْدًۭا وَسَلَكَ لَكُمْ فِيهَا سُبُلًۭا وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ فَأَخْرَجْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًۭا مِّن نَّبَاتٍۢ شَتَّىٰ
20:53play_arrow
Allazee ja’ala lakumul arda mahdanw wa salaka lakum feehaa subulanw wa anzala minas samaaa’i maaa’an fa akhrajnaa biheee azwaajam min nabaatin shatta
Sahih International:
[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants.

كُلُوا۟ وَٱرْعَوْا۟ أَنْعَـٰمَكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلنُّهَىٰ
20:54play_arrow
Kuloo war’aw an’aamakum; inna fee zaalika la Aayaatil li ulin nuhaa (section 2)
Sahih International:
Eat [therefrom] and pasture your livestock. Indeed, in that are signs for those of intelligence.

مِنْهَا خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ وَفِيهَا نُعِيدُكُمْ وَمِنْهَا نُخْرِجُكُمْ تَارَةً أُخْرَىٰ
20:55play_arrow
Minhaa khalaqnaakum wa feehaa nu’eedukum wa minhaa nukhrijukum taaratan ukhraa
Sahih International:
From the earth We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time.

وَلَقَدْ أَرَيْنَـٰهُ ءَايَـٰتِنَا كُلَّهَا فَكَذَّبَ وَأَبَىٰ
20:56play_arrow
Wa laqad arainaahu Aayaatinaa kullahaa fakaz zaba wa abaa
Sahih International:
And We certainly showed Pharaoh Our signs – all of them – but he denied and refused.

قَالَ أَجِئْتَنَا لِتُخْرِجَنَا مِنْ أَرْضِنَا بِسِحْرِكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
20:57play_arrow
Qaala aji’tanaa litukhri janaa min ardinaa bisihrika yaa Moosa
Sahih International:
He said, “Have you come to us to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses?

فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ بِسِحْرٍۢ مِّثْلِهِۦ فَٱجْعَلْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ مَوْعِدًۭا لَّا نُخْلِفُهُۥ نَحْنُ وَلَآ أَنتَ مَكَانًۭا سُوًۭى
20:58play_arrow
Falanaatiyannaka bisihrim mislihee faj’al bainanaa wa bainaka maw’idal laa nukhlifuhoo nahnu wa laaa anta makaanan suwaa
Sahih International:
Then we will surely bring you magic like it, so make between us and you an appointment, which we will not fail to keep and neither will you, in a place assigned.”

قَالَ مَوْعِدُكُمْ يَوْمُ ٱلزِّينَةِ وَأَن يُحْشَرَ ٱلنَّاسُ ضُحًۭى
20:59play_arrow
Qaala maw’idukum yawmuz zeenati wa ai yuhsharan naasu duhaa
Sahih International:
[Moses] said, “Your appointment is on the day of the festival when the people assemble at mid-morning.”

فَتَوَلَّىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فَجَمَعَ كَيْدَهُۥ ثُمَّ أَتَىٰ
20:60play_arrow
Fatawallaa Fir’awnu fajjama’a kaidahoo summa ataa
Sahih International:
So Pharaoh went away, put together his plan, and then came [to Moses].

قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰ وَيْلَكُمْ لَا تَفْتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًۭا فَيُسْحِتَكُم بِعَذَابٍۢ ۖ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ
20:61play_arrow
Qaala lahum Moosaa wailakum laa taftaroo ‘alal laahi kaziban fa yus hitakum bi ‘azaab, wa qad khaaba manif taraa
Sahih International:
Moses said to the magicians summoned by Pharaoh, “Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against Allah or He will exterminate you with a punishment; and he has failed who invents [such falsehood].”

فَتَنَـٰزَعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱلنَّجْوَىٰ
20:62play_arrow
Fatanaaza’ooo amrahum bainahum wa asarrun najwaa
Sahih International:
So they disputed over their affair among themselves and concealed their private conversation.

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَٰنِ لَسَـٰحِرَٰنِ يُرِيدَانِ أَن يُخْرِجَاكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِمَا وَيَذْهَبَا بِطَرِيقَتِكُمُ ٱلْمُثْلَىٰ
20:63play_arrow
Qaalooo in haaazaani lasaahiraani yureedaani ai yukhrijaakum min ardikum bisihrihimaa wa yazhabaa bitareeqatikumul muslaa
Sahih International:
They said, “Indeed, these are two magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and do away with your most exemplary way.

فَأَجْمِعُوا۟ كَيْدَكُمْ ثُمَّ ٱئْتُوا۟ صَفًّۭا ۚ وَقَدْ أَفْلَحَ ٱلْيَوْمَ مَنِ ٱسْتَعْلَىٰ
20:64play_arrow
Fa ajmi’oo kaidakum summma’too saffaa; wa qad aflahal yawma manis ta’laa
Sahih International:
So resolve upon your plan and then come [forward] in line. And he has succeeded today who overcomes.”

قَالُوا۟ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِمَّآ أَن تُلْقِىَ وَإِمَّآ أَن نَّكُونَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَلْقَىٰ
20:65play_arrow
Qaaloo yaa Moosaaa immaaa an tulqiya wa immaaa an nakoona awala man alqaa
Sahih International:
They said, “O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw.”

قَالَ بَلْ أَلْقُوا۟ ۖ فَإِذَا حِبَالُهُمْ وَعِصِيُّهُمْ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِن سِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّهَا تَسْعَىٰ
20:66play_arrow
Qaala bal alqoo fa izaa hibaaluhum wa ‘isiyyuhum yukhaiyalu ilaihi min sihrihim annahaa tas’aa
Sahih International:
He said, “Rather, you throw.” And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes].

فَأَوْجَسَ فِى نَفْسِهِۦ خِيفَةًۭ مُّوسَىٰ
20:67play_arrow
Fa awjasa fee nafsihee kheefatam Moosa
Sahih International:
And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses.

قُلْنَا لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
20:68play_arrow
Qulnaa laa takhaf innaka antal a’laa
Sahih International:
Allah said, “Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior.

وَأَلْقِ مَا فِى يَمِينِكَ تَلْقَفْ مَا صَنَعُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّمَا صَنَعُوا۟ كَيْدُ سَـٰحِرٍۢ ۖ وَلَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلسَّاحِرُ حَيْثُ أَتَىٰ
20:69play_arrow
Wa alqi maa fee yamee nika talqaf maa sana’oo; innamaa sana’oo kaidu saahir; wa laa yuflihus saahiru haisu ataa
Sahih International:
And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is.”

فَأُلْقِىَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سُجَّدًۭا قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ هَـٰرُونَ وَمُوسَىٰ
20:70play_arrow
Fa ulqiyas saharatu sujjadan qaalooo aamannaa bi Rabbi Haaroona wa Moosa
Sahih International:
So the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, “We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.”

قَالَ ءَامَنتُمْ لَهُۥ قَبْلَ أَنْ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَكُمُ ٱلسِّحْرَ ۖ فَلَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَـٰفٍۢ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ فِى جُذُوعِ ٱلنَّخْلِ وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ أَيُّنَآ أَشَدُّ عَذَابًۭا وَأَبْقَىٰ
20:71play_arrow
Qaala aamantum lahoo qabla an aazana lakum; innahoo lakabeerukumul lazee ‘allama kumus sihra fala uqatti’anna aidiyakum wa arjulakum min khilaafinw wa la usallibannakum fee juzoo’in nakhli wa lata’lamunna aiyunaaa ashaddu ‘azaabanw wa abqaa
Sahih International:
[Pharaoh] said, “You believed him before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees, and you will surely know which of us is more severe in [giving] punishment and more enduring.”

قَالُوا۟ لَن نُّؤْثِرَكَ عَلَىٰ مَا جَآءَنَا مِنَ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنَا ۖ فَٱقْضِ مَآ أَنتَ قَاضٍ ۖ إِنَّمَا تَقْضِى هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَآ
20:72play_arrow
Qaaloo lan nu’siraka ‘alaa maa jaaa’anaa minal baiyinaati wallazee fataranaa faqdimaaa anta qaad; innamaa taqdee haazihil hayaatad dunyaa
Sahih International:
They said, “Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us. So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life.

إِنَّآ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّنَا لِيَغْفِرَ لَنَا خَطَـٰيَـٰنَا وَمَآ أَكْرَهْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلسِّحْرِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
20:73play_arrow
Innaaa aamannaa bi Rabbinaa liyaghfira lanaa khataayaanaa wa maaa akrahtanaa ‘alaihi minas sihr; wallaahu khairunw wa abqaa
Sahih International:
Indeed, we have believed in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and what you compelled us [to do] of magic. And Allah is better and more enduring.”

إِنَّهُۥ مَن يَأْتِ رَبَّهُۥ مُجْرِمًۭا فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
20:74play_arrow
Innahoo mai ya’ti Rabbahoo mujriman fa inna lahoo Jahannama laa yamootu feehaa wa laa yahyaa
Sahih International:
Indeed, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal – indeed, for him is Hell; he will neither die therein nor live.

وَمَن يَأْتِهِۦ مُؤْمِنًۭا قَدْ عَمِلَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱلدَّرَجَـٰتُ ٱلْعُلَىٰ
20:75play_arrow
Wa mai ya’tihee mu’minan qad ‘amilas saalihaati fa ulaaa’ika lahumud darajaatul ‘ulaa
Sahih International:
But whoever comes to Him as a believer having done righteous deeds – for those will be the highest degrees [in position]:

جَنَّـٰتُ عَدْنٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَآءُ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ
20:76play_arrow
Jannaatu ‘Adnin tajree min tahtihal anhaaru khaalideena feehaa; wa zaalika jazaaa’u man tazakka (section 3)
Sahih International:
Gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. And that is the reward of one who purifies himself.

وَلَقَدْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى فَٱضْرِبْ لَهُمْ طَرِيقًۭا فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ يَبَسًۭا لَّا تَخَـٰفُ دَرَكًۭا وَلَا تَخْشَىٰ
20:77play_arrow
Wa laqad awhainaaa ilaa Moosaaa an asri bi’ibaadee fadrib lahum tareeqan fil bahri yabasal laa takhaafu darakanw wa laa takhshaa
Sahih International:
And We had inspired to Moses, “Travel by night with My servants and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning].”

فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ بِجُنُودِهِۦ فَغَشِيَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْيَمِّ مَا غَشِيَهُمْ
20:78play_arrow
Fa atba’ahum Fir’awnu bijunoodihee faghashiyahum minal yammmi maa ghashi yahum
Sahih International:
So Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, and there covered them from the sea that which covered them,

وَأَضَلَّ فِرْعَوْنُ قَوْمَهُۥ وَمَا هَدَىٰ
20:79play_arrow
wa adalla fir’awnu qawmahoo wa maa hadaa
Sahih International:
And Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide [them].

يَـٰبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ قَدْ أَنجَيْنَـٰكُم مِّنْ عَدُوِّكُمْ وَوَٰعَدْنَـٰكُمْ جَانِبَ ٱلطُّورِ ٱلْأَيْمَنَ وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ
20:80play_arrow
Yaa Baneee Israaa’eela qad anjainaakum min ‘aduw wikum wa wa’adnaakum jaanibat Tooril aimana wa nazzalnaa ‘alaikumul Manna was Salwaa
Sahih International:
O Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and We made an appointment with you at the right side of the mount, and We sent down to you manna and quails,

كُلُوا۟ مِن طَيِّبَـٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْ وَلَا تَطْغَوْا۟ فِيهِ فَيَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبِى ۖ وَمَن يَحْلِلْ عَلَيْهِ غَضَبِى فَقَدْ هَوَىٰ
20:81play_arrow
Kuloo min taiyibaati maa razaqnaakum wa laa tatghaw feehi fa yahilla ‘alaikum ghadabee wa mai yahlil ‘alaihi ghadabee faqad hawaa
Sahih International:
[Saying], “Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress [or oppress others] therein, lest My anger should descend upon you. And he upon whom My anger descends has certainly fallen.”

وَإِنِّى لَغَفَّارٌۭ لِّمَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا ثُمَّ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
20:82play_arrow
Wa innee la Ghaffaarul liman taaba wa aamana wa ‘amila saalihan summah tadaa
Sahih International:
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.

وَمَآ أَعْجَلَكَ عَن قَوْمِكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
20:83play_arrow
Wa maaa a’jalaka ‘an qawmika yaa Moosa
Sahih International:
[Allah] said, “And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?”

قَالَ هُمْ أُو۟لَآءِ عَلَىٰٓ أَثَرِى وَعَجِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ رَبِّ لِتَرْضَىٰ
20:84play_arrow
Qaala hum ulaaa’i ‘alaaa asaree wa ‘ajiltu ilaika Rabbi litardaa
Sahih International:
He said, “They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased.”

قَالَ فَإِنَّا قَدْ فَتَنَّا قَوْمَكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِكَ وَأَضَلَّهُمُ ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
20:85play_arrow
Qaala fa innaa qad fatannaa qawmaka mim ba’dika wa adallahumus Saamiriyy
Sahih International:
[Allah] said, “But indeed, We have tried your people after you [departed], and the Samiri has led them astray.”

فَرَجَعَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ غَضْبَـٰنَ أَسِفًۭا ۚ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ أَلَمْ يَعِدْكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ وَعْدًا حَسَنًا ۚ أَفَطَالَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْعَهْدُ أَمْ أَرَدتُّمْ أَن يَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُم مَّوْعِدِى
20:86play_arrow
Faraja’a Moosaaa ilaa qawmihee ghadbaana asifaa; qaala yaa qawmi alam ya’idkum Rabbukum wa’dan hasanaa; afataala ‘alaikumul ‘ahdu am arattum ai yahilla ‘alaikum ghadabum mir Rabbikum fa akhlaftum maw’idee
Sahih International:
So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, “O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?”

قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَخْلَفْنَا مَوْعِدَكَ بِمَلْكِنَا وَلَـٰكِنَّا حُمِّلْنَآ أَوْزَارًۭا مِّن زِينَةِ ٱلْقَوْمِ فَقَذَفْنَـٰهَا فَكَذَٰلِكَ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
20:87play_arrow
Qaaloo maaa akhlafnaa maw’idaka bimalkinna wa laakinna hummilnaaa awzaaram min zeenatil qawmi faqazafnaahaa fakazaalika alqas Saamiriyy
Sahih International:
They said, “We did not break our promise to you by our will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Samiri throw.”

فَأَخْرَجَ لَهُمْ عِجْلًۭا جَسَدًۭا لَّهُۥ خُوَارٌۭ فَقَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَآ إِلَـٰهُكُمْ وَإِلَـٰهُ مُوسَىٰ فَنَسِىَ
20:88play_arrow
Fa akhraja lahum ‘ijlan jasadal lahoo khuwaarun faqaaloo haazaaa ilaahukum wa ilaahu Moosaa fanasee
Sahih International:
And he extracted for them [the statue of] a calf which had a lowing sound, and they said, “This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot.”

أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَلَّا يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَوْلًۭا وَلَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ ضَرًّۭا وَلَا نَفْعًۭا
20:89play_arrow
Afalaa yarawna allaa yarji’u ilaihim qawlanw wa laa yamliku lahum darranw wa laa naf’aa (section 4)
Sahih International:
Did they not see that it could not return to them any speech and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit?

وَلَقَدْ قَالَ لَهُمْ هَـٰرُونُ مِن قَبْلُ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنَّمَا فُتِنتُم بِهِۦ ۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى وَأَطِيعُوٓا۟ أَمْرِى
20:90play_arrow
Wa laqad qaala lahum Haaroonu min qablu yaa qawmi innamaa futintum bihee wa inna Rabbakumur Rahmaanu fattabi’oonee wa atee’ooo amree
Sahih International:
And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], “O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order.”

قَالُوا۟ لَن نَّبْرَحَ عَلَيْهِ عَـٰكِفِينَ حَتَّىٰ يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ
20:91play_arrow
Qaaloo lan nabraha ‘alaihi ‘aakifeena hattaa yarji’a ilainaa Moosaa
Sahih International:
They said, “We will never cease being devoted to the calf until Moses returns to us.”

قَالَ يَـٰهَـٰرُونُ مَا مَنَعَكَ إِذْ رَأَيْتَهُمْ ضَلُّوٓا۟
20:92play_arrow
Qaala Yaa Haaroonu maa mana ‘aka iz ra aitahum dallooo
Sahih International:
[Moses] said, “O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray,

أَلَّا تَتَّبِعَنِ ۖ أَفَعَصَيْتَ أَمْرِى
20:93play_arrow
Allaa tattabi’ani afa’asaita amree
Sahih International:
From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?”

قَالَ يَبْنَؤُمَّ لَا تَأْخُذْ بِلِحْيَتِى وَلَا بِرَأْسِىٓ ۖ إِنِّى خَشِيتُ أَن تَقُولَ فَرَّقْتَ بَيْنَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَمْ تَرْقُبْ قَوْلِى
20:94play_arrow
Qaala yabna’umma laa ta’khuz bi lihyatee wa laa bi ra’see innee khasheetu an taqoola farraqta baina Baneee Israaa’eela wa lam tarqub qawlee
Sahih International:
[Aaron] said, “O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, ‘You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word.’ “

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكَ يَـٰسَـٰمِرِىُّ
20:95play_arrow
Qaala famaa khatbuka yaa Saamiriyy
Sahih International:
[Moses] said, “And what is your case, O Samiri?”

قَالَ بَصُرْتُ بِمَا لَمْ يَبْصُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَقَبَضْتُ قَبْضَةًۭ مِّنْ أَثَرِ ٱلرَّسُولِ فَنَبَذْتُهَا وَكَذَٰلِكَ سَوَّلَتْ لِى نَفْسِى
20:96play_arrow
Qaala basurtu bimaa lam yabsuroo bihee faqabadtu qabdatam min asarir Rasooli fanabaztuhaa wa kazaalika sawwalat lee nafsee
Sahih International:
He said, “I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me.”

قَالَ فَٱذْهَبْ فَإِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ أَن تَقُولَ لَا مِسَاسَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَكَ مَوْعِدًۭا لَّن تُخْلَفَهُۥ ۖ وَٱنظُرْ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَـٰهِكَ ٱلَّذِى ظَلْتَ عَلَيْهِ عَاكِفًۭا ۖ لَّنُحَرِّقَنَّهُۥ ثُمَّ لَنَنسِفَنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ نَسْفًا
20:97play_arrow
Qaala fazhab fa inna laka fil hayaati an taqoola laa misaasa wa inna laka maw’idal lan tukhlafahoo wanzur ilaaa ilaahikal lazee zalta ‘alaihi ‘aakifaa; la nuharriqannahoo thumma la nansifannahoo fil yammi nasfaa
Sahih International:
[Moses] said, “Then go. And indeed, it is [decreed] for you in [this] life to say, ‘No contact.’ And indeed, you have an appointment [in the Hereafter] you will not fail to keep. And look at your ‘god’ to which you remained devoted. We will surely burn it and blow it into the sea with a blast.

إِنَّمَآ إِلَـٰهُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عِلْمًۭا
20:98play_arrow
Innamaaa ilaahu kumul laahul lazee laa ilaaha illaa Hoo; wasi’a kulla shai’in ilmaa
Sahih International:
Your god is only Allah, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge.”

كَذَٰلِكَ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنۢبَآءِ مَا قَدْ سَبَقَ ۚ وَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ مِن لَّدُنَّا ذِكْرًۭا
20:99play_arrow
Kazaalika naqussu ‘alaika min anbaaa’i maa qad sabaq; wa qad aatainaaka mil ladunnaa Zikraa
Sahih International:
Thus, [O Muhammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us the Qur’an.

مَّنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَحْمِلُ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وِزْرًا
20:100play_arrow
Man a’rada ‘anhu, fa innahoo yahmilu Yawmal Qiyaamati wizraa
Sahih International:
Whoever turns away from it – then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden,

خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهِ ۖ وَسَآءَ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ حِمْلًۭا
20:101play_arrow
Khaalideena feehi wa saaa’a lahum Yawmal Qiyaamati himlaa
Sahih International:
[Abiding] eternally therein, and evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a load –

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ ۚ وَنَحْشُرُ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ زُرْقًۭا
20:102play_arrow
Yawma yunfakhu fissoori wa nahshurul mujrimeena Yawma ‘izin zurqaa
Sahih International:
The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed.

يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا عَشْرًۭا
20:103play_arrow
Yatakhaafatoona bainahum il labistum illaa ‘ashraa
Sahih International:
They will murmur among themselves, “You remained not but ten [days in the world].”

نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذْ يَقُولُ أَمْثَلُهُمْ طَرِيقَةً إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا يَوْمًۭا
20:104play_arrow
nahnu a’lamu bimaa yaqooloona iz yaqoolu amsaluhum tareeqatan illabistum illaa yawmaa (section 5)
Sahih International:
We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner will say, “You remained not but one day.”

وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلْجِبَالِ فَقُلْ يَنسِفُهَا رَبِّى نَسْفًۭا
20:105play_arrow
Wa yas’aloonaka ‘anil jibaali faqul yansifuhaa Rabbee nasfaa
Sahih International:
And they ask you about the mountains, so say, “My Lord will blow them away with a blast.

فَيَذَرُهَا قَاعًۭا صَفْصَفًۭا
20:106play_arrow
Fa yazaruhaa qaa’an safsafaa
Sahih International:
And He will leave the earth a level plain;

لَّا تَرَىٰ فِيهَا عِوَجًۭا وَلَآ أَمْتًۭا
20:107play_arrow
Laa taraa feehaa ‘iwajanw wa laaa amtaa
Sahih International:
You will not see therein a depression or an elevation.”

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَتَّبِعُونَ ٱلدَّاعِىَ لَا عِوَجَ لَهُۥ ۖ وَخَشَعَتِ ٱلْأَصْوَاتُ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ فَلَا تَسْمَعُ إِلَّا هَمْسًۭا
20:108play_arrow
Yawma iziny yattabi’oonad daa’iya laa ‘iwaja lahoo wa khasha’atil aswaatu lir Rahmaani falaa tasma’u illaa hamsaa
Sahih International:
That Day, everyone will follow [the call of] the Caller [with] no deviation therefrom, and [all] voices will be stilled before the Most Merciful, so you will not hear except a whisper [of footsteps].

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا تَنفَعُ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةُ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَرَضِىَ لَهُۥ قَوْلًۭا
20:109play_arrow
Yawma ‘izil laa tanfa’ush shafaa’atu illaa man azina lahur Rahmaanu wa radiya lahoo qawlaa
Sahih International:
That Day, no intercession will benefit except [that of] one to whom the Most Merciful has given permission and has accepted his word.

يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِهِۦ عِلْمًۭا
20:110play_arrow
Ya’lamu maa bainaa aideehim wa maa khalfahum wa laa yuheetoona bihee ‘ilmaa
Sahih International:
Allah knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, but they do not encompass it in knowledge.

وَعَنَتِ ٱلْوُجُوهُ لِلْحَىِّ ٱلْقَيُّومِ ۖ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ حَمَلَ ظُلْمًۭا
20:111play_arrow
Wa ‘anatil wujoohu lil Haiiyil Qaiyoomi wa qad khaaba man hamala zulmaa
Sahih International:
And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. And he will have failed who carries injustice.

وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌۭ فَلَا يَخَافُ ظُلْمًۭا وَلَا هَضْمًۭا
20:112play_arrow
Wa mai ya’mal minas saalihaati wa huwa mu’minun falaa yakhaafu zulmanw wa laa hadmaa
Sahih International:
But he who does of righteous deeds while he is a believer – he will neither fear injustice nor deprivation.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ قُرْءَانًا عَرَبِيًّۭا وَصَرَّفْنَا فِيهِ مِنَ ٱلْوَعِيدِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ أَوْ يُحْدِثُ لَهُمْ ذِكْرًۭا
20:113play_arrow
Wa kazaalika anzalnaahu Qur-aanan ‘Arabiyyanw wa sarrafnaa fee hi minal wa’eedi la’allahum yattaqoona aw yuhdisu lahum zikraa
Sahih International:
And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance.

فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يُقْضَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ وَحْيُهُۥ ۖ وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًۭا
20:114play_arrow
Fata’aalal laahul Malikul Haqq; wa laa ta’jal bil Quraani min qabli ai yuqdaaa ilaika wahyuhoo wa qur Rabbi zidnee ‘ilmaa
Sahih International:
So high [above all] is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur’an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”

وَلَقَدْ عَهِدْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ ءَادَمَ مِن قَبْلُ فَنَسِىَ وَلَمْ نَجِدْ لَهُۥ عَزْمًۭا
20:115play_arrow
Wa laqad ‘ahidnaaa ilaaa Aadama min qablu fanasiya wa lam najid lahoo ‘azmaa (section 6)
Sahih International:
And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination.

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِـَٔادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ
20:116play_arrow
Wa iz qulnaa lilma laaa’ikatis judoo li Aadama fasajadooo illaaa Ibleesa; abaa
Sahih International:
And [mention] when We said to the angels, “Prostrate to Adam,” and they prostrated, except Iblees; he refused.

فَقُلْنَا يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا عَدُوٌّۭ لَّكَ وَلِزَوْجِكَ فَلَا يُخْرِجَنَّكُمَا مِنَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ فَتَشْقَىٰٓ
20:117play_arrow
Faqulnaa yaaa Aadamu inna haazaa ‘aduwwul laka wa lizawjika falaa yukhrijan nakumaa minal Jannati fatashqaa
Sahih International:
So We said, “O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer.

إِنَّ لَكَ أَلَّا تَجُوعَ فِيهَا وَلَا تَعْرَىٰ
20:118play_arrow
Innaa laka allaa tajoo’a feeha wa laa ta’raa
Sahih International:
Indeed, it is [promised] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed.

وَأَنَّكَ لَا تَظْمَؤُا۟ فِيهَا وَلَا تَضْحَىٰ
20:119play_arrow
Wa annaka laa tazma’u feehaa wa laa tadhaa
Sahih International:
And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun.”

فَوَسْوَسَ إِلَيْهِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ قَالَ يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَىٰ شَجَرَةِ ٱلْخُلْدِ وَمُلْكٍۢ لَّا يَبْلَىٰ
20:120play_arrow
Fa waswasa ilaihish Shaitaanu qaala yaaa Aadamu hal adulluka ‘alaa shajaratil khuldi wa mulkil laa yablaa
Sahih International:
Then Satan whispered to him; he said, “O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?”

فَأَكَلَا مِنْهَا فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِن وَرَقِ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۚ وَعَصَىٰٓ ءَادَمُ رَبَّهُۥ فَغَوَىٰ
20:121play_arrow
Fa akalaa minhaa fabadat lahumaa saw aatuhumaa wa tafiqaa yakhsifaani ‘alaihimaa minw waraqil jannah; wa ‘asaaa Aadamu Rabbahoo faghawaa
Sahih International:
And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.

ثُمَّ ٱجْتَبَـٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ وَهَدَىٰ
20:122play_arrow
Summaj tabbahu Rabbuhoo fataaba ‘alaihi wa hadaa
Sahih International:
Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him].

قَالَ ٱهْبِطَا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًۢا ۖ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّۭ ۖ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّى هُدًۭى فَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هُدَاىَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَىٰ
20:123play_arrow
Qaalah bita minhaa jamee’am ba’dukum liba’din ‘aduww; fa immaa ya’tiyannakum minnee hudan famanit taba’a hudaaya falaa yadillu wa laa yashqaa
Sahih International:
[Allah] said, “Descend from Paradise – all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me – then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].

وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَن ذِكْرِى فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ مَعِيشَةًۭ ضَنكًۭا وَنَحْشُرُهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ أَعْمَىٰ
20:124play_arrow
Wa man a’rada ‘an Zikree fa inna lahoo ma’eeshatan dankanw wa nahshuruhoo Yawmal Qiyaamati a’maa
Sahih International:
And whoever turns away from My remembrance – indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind.”

قَالَ رَبِّ لِمَ حَشَرْتَنِىٓ أَعْمَىٰ وَقَدْ كُنتُ بَصِيرًۭا
20:125play_arrow
Qaala Rabbi lima hashar tanee a’maa wa qad kuntu baseeraa
Sahih International:
He will say, “My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing?”

قَالَ كَذَٰلِكَ أَتَتْكَ ءَايَـٰتُنَا فَنَسِيتَهَا ۖ وَكَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ تُنسَىٰ
20:126play_arrow
Qaala kazaalika atatka Aayaatunaa fanaseetahaa wa kazaalikal Yawma tunsaa
Sahih International:
[Allah] will say, “Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten.”

وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَنْ أَسْرَفَ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِنۢ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ ۚ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَشَدُّ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
20:127play_arrow
Wa kazaalika najzee man asrafa wa lam yu’min bi Aayaati Rabbih; wa la’azaabul Aakhirati ashaddu wa abqaa
Sahih International:
And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring.

أَفَلَمْ يَهْدِ لَهُمْ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ يَمْشُونَ فِى مَسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلنُّهَىٰ
20:128play_arrow
Afalam yahdi lahum kam ahlaknaa qablahum minal qurooni yamshoona fee masaakinihim; inna fee zaalika la Aayaatil li ulinnuhaa (section 7)
Sahih International:
Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.

وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌۭ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَكَانَ لِزَامًۭا وَأَجَلٌۭ مُّسَمًّۭى
20:129play_arrow
Wa law laa Kalimatun sabaqat mir Rabbika lakaana lizaamanw wa ‘ajalun musammaa
Sahih International:
And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, punishment would have been an obligation [due immediately], and [if not for] a specified term [decreed].

فَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا ۖ وَمِنْ ءَانَآئِ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْ وَأَطْرَافَ ٱلنَّهَارِ لَعَلَّكَ تَرْضَىٰ
20:130play_arrow
Fasbir ‘alaa maa yaqooloona wa sabbih bihamdi Rabbika qabla tuloo’ish shamsi wa qabla ghuroobihaa wa min aanaaa’il laili fasabbih wa atraafan nahaari la ‘allaka tardaa
Sahih International:
So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.

وَلَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًۭا مِّنْهُمْ زَهْرَةَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَرِزْقُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰ
20:131play_arrow
Wa laa tamuddanna ‘ainaika ilaa ma matta’na biheee azwajam minhum zahratal hayaatid dunya linaftinahum feeh; wa rizqu Rabbika khairunw wa abqaa
Sahih International:
And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring.

وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَٱصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا ۖ لَا نَسْـَٔلُكَ رِزْقًۭا ۖ نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُكَ ۗ وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ
20:132play_arrow
Wa’mur ahlaka bis Salaati wastabir ‘alaihaa laa nas’aluka rizqaa; nahnu narzuquk; wal ‘aaqibatu littaqwaa
Sahih International:
And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness.

وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا يَأْتِينَا بِـَٔايَةٍۢ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦٓ ۚ أَوَلَمْ تَأْتِهِم بَيِّنَةُ مَا فِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ
20:133play_arrow
Wa qaaloo law laa ya’teenaa bi aayatin mir Rabbih; awa lam ta’tihim baiyinatu maa fis suhufil oolaa
Sahih International:
And they say, “Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?” Has there not come to them evidence of what was in the former scriptures?

وَلَوْ أَنَّآ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم بِعَذَابٍۢ مِّن قَبْلِهِۦ لَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لَوْلَآ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولًۭا فَنَتَّبِعَ ءَايَـٰتِكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن نَّذِلَّ وَنَخْزَىٰ
20:134play_arrow
Wa law annaaa ahlaknaahum bi ‘azaabin min qablihee laqaaloo Rabbanaa law laaa arsalta ilainaa Rasoolan fanattabi’a Aayaatika min qabli an nazilla wa nakhzaa
Sahih International:
And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before him, they would have said, “Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced?”

قُلْ كُلٌّۭ مُّتَرَبِّصٌۭ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ ٱلسَّوِىِّ وَمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
20:135play_arrow
Qul kullum mutarabbisun fa tarabbasoo fa sa ta’lamoona man Ashaabus Siraatis Sawiyyi wa manih tadaa (section 8) (End Juz 16)
Sahih International:
Say, “Each [of us] is waiting; so wait. For you will know who are the companions of the sound path and who is guided.”

And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] – a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. And whoever volunteers excess – it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew.
