Wa qaalal lazeena laa yarjoona liqaaa’anaa law laaa unzila ‘alainal malaaa’ikatu awnaraa Rabbanaa; laqadistakbaroo feee anfusihim wa ‘ataw ‘utuwwan kabeeraa
And those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, “Why were not angels sent down to us, or [why] do we [not] see our Lord?” They have certainly become arrogant within themselves and [become] insolent with great insolence.
Yawma yarawnal malaaa ‘ikata laa bushraa Yawmaizin lil mujrimeena wa yaqooloona hijran mahjooraa
The day they see the angels – no good tidings will there be that day for the criminals, and [the angels] will say, “Prevented and inaccessible.”
Wa qadimnaaa ilaa maa ‘amiloo min ‘amalin faja’alnaahuhabaaa’an manthooraa
And We will regard what they have done of deeds and make them as dust dispersed.
As haabul jannati yawma’izin khairun mustaqar ranw wa ahsanu maqeela
The companions of Paradise, that Day, are [in] a better settlement and better resting place.
Wa Yawma tashaqqaqus samaaa’u bilghamaami wa nuzzilal malaaa’ikatu tanzeela
And [mention] the Day when the heaven will split open with [emerging] clouds, and the angels will be sent down in successive descent.
Almulku Yawma’izinil haqqu lir Rahmaan; wa kaana Yawman’alal kaafireena ‘aseeraa
True sovereignty, that Day, is for the Most Merciful. And it will be upon the disbelievers a difficult Day.
Wa Yawma ya’adduz zaalimu ‘alaa yadaihi yaqoolu yaa laitanit takhaztu ma’ar Rasooli sabeelaa
And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, “Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way.
Yaa wailataa laitanee lam attakhiz fulaanan khaleelaa
Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend.
Laqad adallanee ‘aniz zikri ba’da iz jaaa’anee; wa kaanash Shaitaanu lil insaani khazoolaa
He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter.”
Wa qaalar Rasoolu yaa Rabbi inna qawmit takhazoo haazal Qur’aana mahjooraa
And the Messenger has said, “O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur’an as [a thing] abandoned.”
Wa kazaalika ja’alnaa likulli Nabiyyin ‘aduwwan minal mujrimeen; wa kafaa bi Rabbika haadiyanw wa naseeraa
And thus have We made for every prophet an enemy from among the criminals. But sufficient is your Lord as a guide and a helper.
Wa qaalal lazeena kafaroo law laa nuzzila ‘alaihil Qur’aanu jumlatanw waahidah; kazaalika linusabbita bihee fu’aadaka wa rattalnaahu tarteelaa
And those who disbelieve say, “Why was the Qur’an not revealed to him all at once?” Thus [it is] that We may strengthen thereby your heart. And We have spaced it distinctly.
And they do not come to you with an argument except that We bring you the truth and the best explanation.
Allazeena yuhsharoona ‘alaa wujoohihim ilaa jahannama ulaaa’ika sharrun makaananw wa adallu sabeelaa (section 3)
The ones who are gathered on their faces to Hell – those are the worst in position and farthest astray in [their] way.
Wa laqad aatainaa Moosal Kitaaba wa ja’alnaa ma’ahooo akhaahu Haaroona wazeeraa
And We had certainly given Moses the Scripture and appointed with him his brother Aaron as an assistant.
Faqulnaz habaaa ilal qawmil lazeena kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa fadammarnaahum tadmeeraa
And We said, “Go both of you to the people who have denied Our signs.” Then We destroyed them with [complete] destruction.
Wa qawma Noohin lammaa kazzabur Rusula aghraqnaahum wa ja’alnaahum linnaasi Aayatanw wa a’tadnaa lizzaalimeena ‘azaaban aleemaa
And the people of Noah – when they denied the messengers, We drowned them, and We made them for mankind a sign. And We have prepared for the wrongdoers a painful punishment.
Wa ‘Aadanw wa Samooda wa As haabar Rassi wa quroonan baina zaalika katheeraa
And [We destroyed] ‘Aad and Thamud and the companions of the well and many generations between them.
Wa kullan darabnaa lahul amsaala wa kullan tabbarnaa tatbeera
And for each We presented examples [as warnings], and each We destroyed with [total] destruction.
Wa laqad ataw ‘alal qaryatil lateee umtirat mataras saw’; afalam yakoonoo yarawnahaa; bal kaanoo laa yarjoona nushooraa
And they have already come upon the town which was showered with a rain of evil. So have they not seen it? But they are not expecting resurrection.
Wa izaa ra awka iny yattakhizoonaka illaa huzuwan ahaazal lazee ba’asal laahu Rasoolaa
And when they see you, [O Muhammad], they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], “Is this the one whom Allah has sent as a messenger?
In kaada la yudillunaa ‘an aalihatinaa law laaa an sabarnaa ‘alaihaa; wa sawfa ya’lamoona heena yarawnal ‘azaaba man adallu sabeela
He almost would have misled us from our gods had we not been steadfast in [worship of] them.” But they are going to know, when they see the punishment, who is farthest astray in [his] way.
Ara’aita manit takhaza ilaahahoo hawaahu afa anta takoonu ‘alaihi wakeelaa
Have you seen the one who takes as his god his own desire? Then would you be responsible for him?
Am tahsabu anna aksarahum yasma’oona aw ya’qiloon; in hum illaa kal an’aami bal hum adallu sabeelaa (section 4)
Or do you think that most of them hear or reason? They are not except like livestock. Rather, they are [even] more astray in [their] way.
Alam tara ilaa Rabbika kaifa maddaz zilla wa law shaaa’a la ja’alahoo saakinan thumma ja’alnash shamsa ‘alaihi daleelaa
Have you not considered your Lord – how He extends the shadow, and if He willed, He could have made it stationary? Then We made the sun for it an indication.
Thumma qabadnaahu ilainaa qabdany yaseeraa
Then We hold it in hand for a brief grasp.
Wa Huwal lazee ja’ala lakumul laila libaasanw wannawma subaatanw wa ja’alan nahaara nushooraa
And it is He who has made the night for you as clothing and sleep [a means for] rest and has made the day a resurrection.
Wa Huwal lazeee arsalar riyaaha bushran baina yadai rahmatih; wa anzalnaa minas samaaa’i maaa’an tahooraa
And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy, and We send down from the sky pure water
Linuhyiya bihee baldatan maitanw-wa nusqiyahoo mimmaa khalaqnaaa an’aamanw wa anaasiyya katheeraa
That We may bring to life thereby a dead land and give it as drink to those We created of numerous livestock and men.
Wa laqad sarrafnaahu bainahum li yazzakkaroo fa abaaa aksarun naasi illaa kufooraa
And We have certainly distributed it among them that they might be reminded, but most of the people refuse except disbelief.
Wa law shi’naa laba’asnaa fee kulli qaryatin nazeeraa
And if We had willed, We could have sent into every city a warner.
Falaa tuti’il kaafireena wa jaahidhum bihee jihaadan kabeeraa
So do not obey the disbelievers, and strive against them with the Qur’an a great striving.
Wa Huwal lazee marajal bahraini haazaa ‘azbun furaatunw wa haazaa milhun ujaaj; wa ja’ala bainahumaa barzakhanw wa hijran mahjooraa
And it is He who has released [simultaneously] the two seas, one fresh and sweet and one salty and bitter, and He placed between them a barrier and prohibiting partition.
Wa Huwal lazee khalaqa minal maaa’i basharan fa ja’alahoo nasaban wa sihraa; wa kaana Rabbuka Qadeeraa
And it is He who has created from water a human being and made him [a relative by] lineage and marriage. And ever is your Lord competent [concerning creation].
But they worship rather than Allah that which does not benefit them or harm them, and the disbeliever is ever, against his Lord, an assistant [to Satan].
Wa maa arsalnaaka illaa mubashshiranw wa nazeeraa
And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner.
Qul maaa as’alukum ‘alaihi min ajrin illaa man shaaa’a ai yattakhiza ilaa Rabbihee sabeelaa
Say, “I do not ask of you for it any payment – only that whoever wills might take to his Lord a way.”
Wa tawakkal ‘alal Haiyil lazee laa yamootu wa sabbih bihamdih; wa kafaa bihee bizunoobi ‘ibaadihee khabeeraa
And rely upon the Ever-Living who does not die, and exalt [Allah] with His praise. And sufficient is He to be, with the sins of His servants, Acquainted –
Allazee khalaqas samaawaati wal arda wa maa bainahumaa fee sittati aiyaamin thumma stawaa ‘alal ‘Arsh; ar Rahmaanu fas’al bihee khabeeraa
He who created the heavens and the earth and what is between them in six days and then established Himself above the Throne – the Most Merciful, so ask about Him one well informed.
Wa izaa qeela lahumus judoo lir Rahmaani qaaloo wa mar Rahmaanu ‘a nasjudu limaa ta’murunaa wa zaadahum nufooraa (section 5) (make sajda)
And when it is said to them, “Prostrate to the Most Merciful,” they say, “And what is the Most Merciful? Should we prostrate to that which you order us?” And it increases them in aversion.
Tabaarakal lazee ja’ala fis samaaa’i buroojanw wa ja’ala feehaa siraajanw wa qamaran muneeraa
Blessed is He who has placed in the sky great stars and placed therein a [burning] lamp and luminous moon.
Wa huwal lazee ja’alal laila wannahaara khilfatan liman araada ‘any yazzakkara aw araadaa shukooraa
And it is He who has made the night and the day in succession for whoever desires to remember or desires gratitude.
Wa ‘ibaadur Rahmaanil lazeena yamshoona ‘alal ardi hawnanw wa izaa khaata bahumul jaahiloona qaaloo salaamaa
And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace,
Wallazeena yabeetoona li Rabbihim sujjadanw wa qiyaamaa
And those who spend [part of] the night to their Lord prostrating and standing [in prayer]
Wallazeena yaqooloona Rabbanas rif ‘annaa ‘azaaba Jahannama inna ‘azaabahaa kaana gharaamaa
And those who say, “Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering;
Innahaa saaa’at mustaqarranw wa muqaamaa
Indeed, it is evil as a settlement and residence.”
Wallazeena izaaa anfaqoo lam yusrifoo wa lam yaqturoo wa kaana baina zaalika qawaamaa
And [they are] those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderate
Wallazeena laa yad’oona ma’al laahi ilaahan aakhara wa laa yaqtuloonan nafsal latee harramal laahu illaa bilhaqqi wa laa yaznoon; wa mai yaf’al zaalika yalqa ‘athaamaa
And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty.
Yudaa’af lahul ‘azaabu Yawmal Qiyaamati wa yakhlud feehee muhaanaa
Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated –
Illaa man taaba wa ‘aamana wa ‘amila ‘amalan saalihan fa ulaaa’ika yubad dilul laahu saiyi aatihim hasanaat; wa kaanal laahu Ghafoorar Raheemaa
Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
Wa man taaba wa ‘amila saalihan fa innahoo yatoobu ilal laahi mataabaa
And he who repents and does righteousness does indeed turn to Allah with [accepted] repentance.
Wallazeena laa yash hadoonaz zoora wa izaa marroo billaghwi marroo kiraamaa
And [they are] those who do not testify to falsehood, and when they pass near ill speech, they pass by with dignity.
Wallazeena izaa zukkiroo bi Aayaati Rabbihim lam yakhirroo ‘alaihaa summanw wa’umyaanaa
And those who, when reminded of the verses of their Lord, do not fall upon them deaf and blind.
Wallazeena yaqooloona Rabbanaa hab lanaa min azwaajinaa wa zurriyaatinaa qurrata a’yuninw waj ‘alnaa lilmuttaqeena Imaamaa
And those who say, “Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.”
Ulaaa’ika yujzawnal ghurfata bimaa sabaroo wa yulaqqawna feehaa tahiyyatanw wa salaamaa
Those will be awarded the Chamber for what they patiently endured, and they will be received therein with greetings and [words of] peace.

Abiding eternally therein. Good is the settlement and residence.
Qul maa ya’ba’u bikum Rabbee law laa du’aaa’ukum faqad kazzabtum fasawfa yakoonu lizaamaa (section 6)
Say, “What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication?” For you [disbelievers] have denied, so your denial is going to be adherent.
Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Tilka Aayaatul Kitaabil Mubeen
These are the verses of the clear Book.
Perhaps, [O Muhammad], you would kill yourself with grief that they will not be believers.
In nashaa nunazzil ‘alaihim minas samaaa’i Aayatan fazallat a’naaquhum lahaa khaadi’een
If We willed, We could send down to them from the sky a sign for which their necks would remain humbled.
Wa maa yaateehim min zikrim minar Rahmaani muhdasin illaa kaanoo ‘anhu mu’rideen
And no revelation comes to them anew from the Most Merciful except that they turn away from it.
Faqad kazzaboo fasa yaateehim ambaaa’u maa kaanoo bihee yastahzi’oon
For they have already denied, but there will come to them the news of that which they used to ridicule.
Awa lam yaraw ilal ardi kam ambatnaa feehaa min kulli zawjin kareem
Did they not look at the earth – how much We have produced therein from every noble kind?
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
Wa inna Rabbaka la Huwal ‘Azeezur Raheem (section 1)
And indeed, your Lord – He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
Wa iz naadaa Rabbuka Moosaaa ani’-til qawmaz zaalimeen
And [mention] when your Lord called Moses, [saying], “Go to the wrongdoing people –
Qawma Fir’awn; alaa yattaqoon
The people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Allah?”
Qaala Rabbi inneee akhaafu ai yukazziboon
He said, “My Lord, indeed I fear that they will deny me
Wa yadeequ sadree wa laa yantaliqu lisaanee fa arsil ilaa Haaroon
And that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron.
Wa lahum ‘alaiya zambun fa akhaafu ai yaqtuloon
And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me.”
Qaala kallaa fazhabaa bi Aayaatinaaa innaa ma’akum mustami’oon
[Allah] said, “No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening.
Faatiyaa Fir’awna faqoolaaa innaa Rasoolu Rabbil ‘aalameen
Go to Pharaoh and say, ‘We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds,
An arsil ma’anaa Baneee Israaa’eel
[Commanded to say], “Send with us the Children of Israel.”‘”
Qaala alam nurabbika feenaa waleedanw wa labista feenaa min ‘umurika sineen
[Pharaoh] said, “Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life?
Wa fa’alta fa’latakal latee fa’alta wa anta minal kaafireen
And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful.”
Qaala fa’altuhaaa izanw wa ana minad daaaleen
[Moses] said, “I did it, then, while I was of those astray.
Fafarartu minkum lam maa khiftukum fawahaba lee Rabbee hukmanw wa ja’alanee minal mursaleen
So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and prophethood and appointed me [as one] of the messengers.
Wa tilka ni’matun tamun nuhaa ‘alaiya an ‘abbatta Baneee Israaa’eel
And is this a favor of which you remind me – that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?”
Qaala Fir’awnu wa maa Rabbul ‘aalameen
Said Pharaoh, “And what is the Lord of the worlds?”
Qaala Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi wa maa bainahumaa in kuntum mooqineen
[Moses] said, “The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced.”
Qaala liman hawlahooo alaa tastami’oon
[Pharaoh] said to those around him, “Do you not hear?”
Qaala Rabbukum wa Rabbu aabaaa’ikumul awwaleen
[Moses] said, “Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers.”
Qaala inna Rasoolakumul lazee ursila ilaikum lamajnoon
[Pharaoh] said, “Indeed, your ‘messenger’ who has been sent to you is mad.”
Qaala Rabbul mashriqi wal maghribi wa maa baina humaa in kuntum ta’qiloon
[Moses] said, “Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason.”
Qaala la’init takhazta ilaahan ghairee la aj’alannaka minal masjooneen
[Pharaoh] said, “If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned.”
Qaala awalaw ji’tuka bishai’im mubeen
[Moses] said, “Even if I brought you proof manifest?”
Qaala faati biheee in kunta minas saadiqeen
[Pharaoh] said, “Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful.”
Fa alqaa ‘asaahu fa izaaa hiya su’baanum mubeen
So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest.
Wa naza’a yadahoo faizaa hiya baidaaa’u linnaa zireen (section 2)
And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers.
Qaala lilmala-i hawlahooo inna haazaa lasaahirun ‘aleem
[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, “Indeed, this is a learned magician.
Yureedu ai yukhrijakum min ardikum bisihrihee famaazaa taamuroon
He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?”
Qaalooo arjih wa akhaahu wab’as filmadaaa’ini haashireen
They said, “Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers
Yaatooka bikulli sah haarin ‘aleem
Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician.”
Fa jumi’as saharatu limeeqaati Yawmim ma’loom
So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day.
Wa qeela linnaasi hal antum mujtami’oon
And it was said to the people, “Will you congregate
La’allanaa nattabi’us saharata in kaanoo humul ghaalibeen
That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?”
Falammaa jaaa’as saharatu qaaloo li Fir’awna a’inna lanaa la ajjran in kunnaa nahnul ghaalibeen
And when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, “Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant?”
He said, “Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me].”
Qaala lahum Moosaaa alqoo maaa antum mulqoon
Moses said to them, “Throw whatever you will throw.”
Fa alqaw hibaalahum wa ‘isiyyahum wa qaaloo bi’izzati Fir’awna innaa lanahnul ghaaliboon
So they threw their ropes and their staffs and said, “By the might of Pharaoh, indeed it is we who are predominant.”
Fa alqaa Moosaa ‘asaahu fa izaa hiya talqafu maa yaafikoon
Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified.
Fa ulqiyas saharatu saajideen
So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah].
Qaalooo aamannaa bi Rabbil ‘aalameen
They said, “We have believed in the Lord of the worlds,
Rabbi Moosaa wa Haaroon
The Lord of Moses and Aaron.”
Qaala aamantum lahoo qabla an aazana lakum innahoo lakabeerukumul lazee ‘alla makumus sihra falasawfa ta’lamoon; la uqatti’anna aidiyakum wa arjulakum min khilaafinw wa la usallibanna kum ajma’een
[Pharaoh] said, “You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all.”
Qaaloo la daira innaaa ilaa Rabbinaa munqalliboon
They said, “No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return.
Innaa natma’u ai yaghfira lanaa Rabbunaa khataa yaanaaa an kunnaaa awwalal mu’mineen (section 3)
Indeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers.”
Wa awhainaaa ilaa Moosaaa an asri bi’ibaadeee innakum muttaba’oon
And We inspired to Moses, “Travel by night with My servants; indeed, you will be pursued.”
Fa arsala Fir’awnu filmadaaa’ini haashireen
Then Pharaoh sent among the cities gatherers
Inna haaa’ulaaa’i lashir zimatun qaleeloon
[And said], “Indeed, those are but a small band,
Wa innahum lanaa laghaaa’izoon
And indeed, they are enraging us,
Wa innaa lajamee’un haaziroon
And indeed, we are a cautious society… “
Fa akhrajnaahum min Jannaatinw wa ‘uyoon
So We removed them from gardens and springs
Wa kunoozinw wa ma qaamin kareem
And treasures and honorable station –
Kazaalika wa awrasnaahaa Baneee Israaa’eel
Thus. And We caused to inherit it the Children of Israel.
Fa atba’oohum mushriqeen
So they pursued them at sunrise.
Falammaa taraaa’al jam’aani qaala as haabu Moosaaa innaa lamudrakoon
And when the two companies saw one another, the companions of Moses said, “Indeed, we are to be overtaken!”
Qaala kallaaa inna ma’iya Rabbee sa yahdeen
[Moses] said, “No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me.”
Fa awhainaaa ilaa Moosaaa anidrib bi’asaakal bahra fanfalaqa fakaana kullu firqin kattawdil ‘azeem
Then We inspired to Moses, “Strike with your staff the sea,” and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain.
Wa azlafnaa sammal aakhareen
And We advanced thereto the pursuers.
Wa anjainaa Moosaa wa mam ma’ahooo ajma’een
And We saved Moses and those with him, all together.
Summa aghraqnal aakhareen
Then We drowned the others.
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
Wa inna Rabbaka la Huwal ‘Azeezur Raheem (section 4)
And indeed, your Lord – He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
Watlu ‘alaihim naba-a Ibraaheem
And recite to them the news of Abraham,
Iz qaala li abeehi wa qawmihee maa ta’budoon

Qaaloo na’budu asnaaman fanazallu lahaa ‘aakifeen
They said, “We worship idols and remain to them devoted.”
Qaala hal yasma’oona kum iz tad’oon
He said, “Do they hear you when you supplicate?
Aw yanfa’oonakum aw yadurroon
Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?”
Qaaloo bal wajadnaaa aabaaa ‘anaa kazaalika yaf’aloon
They said, “But we found our fathers doing thus.”
Qaala afara ‘aitum maa kuntum ta’budoon
He said, “Then do you see what you have been worshipping,

Waj’al lee lisaana sidqin fil aakhireen
And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations.
Waj’alnee minw warasati Jannnatin Na’eem
And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure.
Waghfir li abeee innahoo kaana mind daalleen
And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray.
