“Such are the ones who believe (in the message of the Prophet) and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah. Surely in Allah’s remembrance do hearts find rest.”
Surar Ar-Ra’d Verse 28

La illah illa allah (the word of Tawhid) means, there is no God but Allah and is one of the greatest phrases anyone can say.

This is what it means to have faith, it’s the foundation of Islam, the pillar of belief. Whoever understands it and wholeheartedly believes it will be saved.

The benefits and virtue of this phrase and its place in Islam are far greater than can be described.

In Sahih Bukhari hadith 3293 and Sahih Muslim 2691 this is what was Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) tries to relay.

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “If one says one-hundred times in one day: “None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Alone Who has no partners, to Him belongs Dominion and to Him belong all the Praises, and He has power over all things (i.e. Omnipotent)”, one will get the reward of manumitting ten slaves, and one-hundred good deeds will be written in his account, and one-hundred bad deeds will be wiped off or erased from his account, and on that day he will be protected from the morning till evening from Satan, and nobody will be superior to him except one who has done more than that which he has done.”

Benefit To Those who recite 100 times

In the hadith it mentions the benefit to those who recite this dua one hundred times. This is to emphasize how much weight or potent these words are.

But note, it’s not the mere act of saying these words, individually these words do not carry blessings. It for what the sentence these words make when together, i.e. the idea and the message they spread. This is why it’s very important for us to take the time to learn what we are saying and to see if we really understand it at it’s core.

From the hadith, it says to those who recite 100 times it as if:

  • You get the reward of manumitting (setting free) ten slaves.
  • One-hundred good deeds will be written in his account.
  • One-hundred bad deeds will be wiped off or erased from his account.
  • Protected from the morning till evening from Shaitan.

We are all guilty of not utilizing the time Allah has given us here on earth most effectively. May Allah make us more mindful and aware of where the time is spent. These phones and applications are being engineered by world’s greatest minds to make sure we are addicted.

With this technology comes unprecedented access to information that in the past was only for the privileged, but it has come with an expensive price to pay. So we must be wise and we must be careful. We need teach our children awareness and discipline, not just limiting their “screen-time”. Teach them to use technology to their advantage but to not become a slave to it. We all need to think about the effect the things we purchase have on us. What’s the price we are paying for it, and I don’t mean in the monetary sense.

This is surely a test and we have to pay more attention to the things we give attention.

The successful among us are the people who are best at utilizing their free-time, they can confidently respond when asked ‘how did you spend your time’ to all the words recited at all times and in all places.
