Laqad jaakum In Arabic Text:

لَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration: laqad jaakum rasul min anfusikum azizun ‘alaihi maa ‘ennittum harisun ‘alaikum bilmu’mineena ra’oofur raheem

 

Translations

DR. GHALI Indeed there has already come to you a Messenger from (among) yourselves. Mighty (i.e., burdensome) to him is whatever distresses you. Most eager is he for your (welfare), to the believers (he is) constantly compassionate, constantly merciful.

PICKTHALL There hath come unto you a messenger, (one) of yourselves, unto whom aught that ye are overburdened is grievous, full of concern for you, for the believers full of pity, merciful.

MUHSIN KHAN Verily, there has come unto you a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from amongst yourselves (i.e. whom you know well). It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty. He (Muhammad SAW) is anxious over you (to be rightly guided, to repent to Allah, and beg Him to pardon and forgive your sins, in order that you may enter Paradise and be saved from the punishment of the Hell-fire), for the believers (he SAW is) full of pity, kind, and merciful.

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful.

ABUL ALA MAUDUDI There has come to you a Messenger of Allah from among yourselves, who is distressed by the losses you sustain, who is ardently desirous of your welfare and is tender and merciful to those that believe.

MUFTI TAQI USMANI Surely, there has come to you, from your midst, a Messenger who feels it very hard on him if you face a hardship, who is very anxious for your welfare, and for the believers he is very kind, very merciful.

DR. MUSTAFA KHATTAB There certainly has come to you a messenger from among yourselves. He is concerned by your suffering, anxious for your well-being, and gracious and merciful to the believers.

The benefits of laqad jakum are believed to provide the following:

  • To be relieved from debts.
  • To become rich.
  • To be relieved of all your problems and become happy.
  • To recover quickly from illness.
  • To be protected from cheaters and deceitful people.
  • The be protected from an early accidental death.

These are often the list of benefits you may find online regarding the recitation of this ayat and surah taubah ayat 129. However, there is no basis for these claims. There is no authentic source that claims if you recite this X amount of times you will receive Y benefit. This is bidʻah.
