QU'RAN VERSE NO COMPULSION IN RELIGION

This is a famous verse mentioned in Surah Baqarah on free will and compulsion into religion. The principle that there's no compulsion in religion gives people the right to choose their faith. Islam provided non-Muislims who cohabitated on Muslim land during that time the choice of religious freedom, protection, and other rights. There's an obvious difference between ignorance (i.e., not knowing) and a person that should be made aware of Allah's message. But ultimately, the choice is given to them as to whether they want to practice and should be made aware of the consequences of their choice not to follow.

There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
