And do not be like those who say, “We have heard,” while they do not hear.
Nor be like those who say, “We hear,” but listen not:
And do not be like those who say: ‘We hear’, though they do not hearken.
And be not like those who say: “We have heard,” but they hear not.
Be not as those who say, we hear, and they hear not.
And do not be as the ones who have said, “We hear, ” and they do not hear.
do not be like those who say, ‘We heard,’ though in fact they were not listening-
اور تم ان لوگوں کی طرح مت ہونا جو دعویٰ تو کرتے ہیں کہ ہم نے سن لیا حاﻻنکہ وه سنتے (سناتے کچھ) نہیں

Ala-Maududi
(8:21) And do not be like those who say: ‘We hear’, though they do not hearken.[16]
16. In the present context, ‘hearing’ means taking heed with a view to obey’. The verse alludes to those hypocrites who professed to believe and yet were not willing to carry out the commands of God.
