Sahih International
And if We had made him an angel, We would have made him [appear as] a man, and We would have covered them with that in which they cover themselves.

Yusuf Ali
If We had made it an angel, We should have sent him as a man, and We should certainly have caused them confusion in a matter which they have already covered with confusion.

Abul Ala Maududi
Had We appointed an angel, We would have sent him down in the form of a man – and thus We would have caused them the same doubt which they now entertain.

Muhsin Khan
And had We appointed him an angel, We indeed would have made him a man, and We would have certainly caused them confusion in a matter which they have already covered with confusion (i.e. the Message of Prophet Muhammad SAW).

Pickthall
Had we appointed him (Our messenger) an angel, We assuredly had made him (as) a man (that he might speak to men); and (thus) obscured for them (the truth) they (now) obscure.

Dr. Ghali
And if We had made him an Angel, We would indeed have made him a man, and We would indeed have confounded for them whatever they are confounding.

Abdel Haleem
Indeed, if We had sent an angel as messenger, We would still have sent him in the form of a man, so increasing their confusion.

Muhammad Junagarhi
اور اگر ہم اس کو فرشتہ تجویز کرتے تو ہم اس کو آدمی ہی بناتے اور ہمارے اس فعل سے پھر ان پر وہی اشکال ہوتا جو اب اشکال کر رہے ہیں

Quran 6 Verse 9 Explanation

For those looking for commentary to help with the understanding of Surah Al-An’am ayat 9, we’ve provided two Tafseer works below. The first is the tafseer of Abul Ala Maududi, the second is of Ibn Kathir.

Ala-Maududi

(6:9) Had We appointed an angel, We would have sent him down in the form of a man – and thus We would have caused them the same doubt which they now entertain.[7]

7. This is the second point in response to the unbelievers’ objection. One possible form in which the angel could have appeared is in its true, non-terrestrial form. It has already been pointed out that the time for this has not arrived. Alternatively, angels could have come down in human form. But this would have left the unbelievers facing the same difficulty as they faced with regard to whether the Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) had been designated by God or not.

Ibn-Kathir
