Surah Fajr Ayat 18 in Arabic Text

وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
Wa laa tahaaaddoona ‘alaata’aamil miskeen

English Translation

Sahih International
And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.

Yusuf Ali
Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!-

Abul Ala Maududi
and do not urge one another to feed the poor,

Muhsin Khan
And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)!

And urge not on the feeding of the poor.

Quran 89 Verse 18 Explanation

Ala-Maududi

(89:18) and do not urge one another to feed the poor,[12]


12. That is, nobody in your society feels any urge to feed the poor. Neither a man himself feels inclined to feed a hungry person, nor is there among the people any urge to do something to satisfy the hunger of the hungry, nor do they exhort one another to do so.

Ibn-Kathir
