Background Surah Information
It is generally agreed upon that Surah Humazah is an early Meccan surah. The message of the Surah pertains to three grave sins that should be avoided and covers the nature of the punishment for those who fail to do so. The three sins are, (i) backbiting, (ii) slandering/ridicule, and (iii) hoarding of wealth.
In Sahih Muslim 2589, Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Do you know what is backbiting? They (the Companions) said: Allah and His Messenger know best. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Backbiting implies your talking about your brother in a manner which he does not like. It was said to him: What is your opinion about this that if I actually find (that failing) in my brother which I made a mention of? He said: If (that failing) is actually found (in him) what you assert, you in fact backbit him, and if that is not in him it is a slander.
This hadith affirms that even if what you mention is true it’s still considered backbiting. It’s morally corrupt to speak ill of someone when they are not present and able to defend themselves. Slandering is also a grave sin for trying to defame a person’s character through falsehoods. The third evil is greed or hoarding of wealth, it can refer to a deep infatuation one can have for accumulating and counting their money. This is an unhealthy outlook that leads to pride and arrogance and they forget to fulfill their duties as Muslims and become detached from reality.

شروع کرتا ہوں اللہ تعالیٰ کے نام سے جو بڑا مہربان نہایت رحم واﻻ ہے
अल्लाह के नाम से जो रहमान व रहीम है।
Dengan nama Allah, Yang Maha Pemurah, lagi Maha Mengasihani.
Woe to every scorner and mocker
Woe to every (kind of) scandal-monger and-backbiter,
Woe to every fault-finding backbiter;
Woe to every slanderer and backbiter.
Woe unto every slandering traducer,
Woe to every persistent slanderer, persistent defamer,
Woe to every fault-finding backbiter
بڑی خرابی ہے ہر ایسے شخص کی جو عیب ٹٹولنے واﻻ غیبت کرنے واﻻ ہو
हर ताना देने वाले चुग़लख़ोर की ख़राबी है
Kecelakaan besar bagi tiap-tiap pencaci, pengeji,
Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it.
Who pileth up wealth and layeth it by,
who amasses wealth and counts it over and again.
Who has gathered wealth and counted it,
Who hath gathered wealth (of this world) and arranged it.
Who has gathered wealth and counted it over.
who amasses riches, counting them over,
جو مال کو جمع کرتا جائے اور گنتا جائے
जो माल को जमा करता है और गिन गिन कर रखता है
Yang mengumpulkan harta dan berulang-ulang menghitung kekayaannya;
He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.
Thinking that his wealth would make him last for ever!
He thinks that his wealth will immortalise him forever.
He thinks that his wealth will make him last forever!
He thinketh that his wealth will render him immortal.
He reckons that his wealth has made him eternal!
thinking they will make him live for ever.
وه سمجھتا ہے کہ اس کا مال اس کے پاس سدا رہے گا
वह समझता है कि उसका माल उसे हमेशा ज़िन्दा बाक़ी रखेगा
Ia menyangka bahawa hartanya itu dapat mengekalkannya (dalam dunia ini)!
No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher.
By no means! He will be sure to be thrown into That which Breaks to Pieces,
Nay, he shall be thrown into the Crusher.
Nay! Verily, he will be thrown into the crushing Fire.
Nay, but verily he will be flung to the Consuming One.
Not at all! Indeed he will definitely be flung off into the Crusher.
No indeed! He will be thrust into the Crusher!
ہرگز نہیں یہ تو ضرور توڑ پھوڑ دینے والی آگ میں پھینک دیا جائے گا
हरगिज़ नहीं वह तो ज़रूर हुतमा में डाला जाएगा
Tidak! Sesungguhnya dia akan dicampakkan ke dalam “Al-Hutamah”.
And what can make you know what is the Crusher?
And what will explain to thee That which Breaks to Pieces?
And what do you know what the Crusher is?
And what will make you know what the crushing Fire is?
Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Consuming One is!
And what makes you realize what the Crusher is?
What will explain to you what the Crusher is?
اور تجھے کیا معلوم کہ ایسی آگ کیا ہوگی؟
और तुमको क्या मालूम हतमा क्या है
Dan apa jalannya engkau dapat mengetahui, apa dia “Al-Hutamah” itu?
It is the fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled,
(It is) the Fire of (the Wrath of) Allah kindled (to a blaze),
It is the Fire kindled by Allah,
The fire of Allah, kindled,
(It is) the fire of Allah, kindled,
(It is) the Fire of Allah kindled,
It is God’s Fire, made to blaze,
وه اللہ تعالیٰ کی سلگائی ہوئی آگ ہوگی
वह ख़ुदा की भड़काई हुई आग है जो (तलवे से लगी तो) दिलों तक चढ़ जाएगी
(Al-Hutamah) ialah api Allah yang dinyalakan (dengan perintahNya), –
Which mounts directed at the hearts.
The which doth mount (Right) to the Hearts:
the Fire that shall rise to the hearts (of criminals).
Which leaps up over the hearts,
Which leapeth up over the hearts (of men).
Which views the heart-sights.
which rises over people’s hearts.
جو دلوں پر چڑھتی چلی جائے گی
ये लोग आग के लम्बे सुतूनो
Yang naik menjulang ke hati;
Indeed, Hellfire will be closed down upon them
It shall be made into a vault over them,
Verily it will close in upon them,
Verily, it shall be closed in on them,
Lo! it is closed in on them
Surely it is vaulted over (i.e., with no outlet) upon them,
It closes in on them
وہ ان پر ہر طرف سے بند کی ہوئی ہوگی
में डाल कर बन्द कर दिए
Sesungguhnnya api neraka itu ditutup rapat atas mereka.

In pillars stretched forth (i.e. they will be punished in the Fire with pillars, etc.).

بڑے بڑے ستونوں میں
जाएँगे
(Mereka terikat di situ) pada batang-batang palang yang melintang panjang.

The Prophet said, “Verily, this Quran is a rope. One end is in the hand of Allah and the other end is in your hands. Hold fast to it, for you will never be led astray or ruined ever again.”
