Surah An-Nisa Ayat 139 in Arabic Text

ٱلَّذِينَ يَتَّخِذُونَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ أَوۡلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَۚ أَيَبۡتَغُونَ عِندَهُمُ ٱلۡعِزَّةَ فَإِنَّ ٱلۡعِزَّةَ لِلَّهِ جَمِيعٗا
Allazeena yattakhizoo nal kaafireena awliyaaa’a min doonil mu’mineen; a-yabta ghoona ‘indahumul ‘izzata fainnnal ‘izzata lillaahi jamee’aa

English Translation

Sahih International
Those who take disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. Do they seek with them honor [through power]? But indeed, honor belongs to Allah entirely.

Yusuf Ali
Yea, to those who take for friends unbelievers rather than believers: is it honour they seek among them? Nay,- all honour is with Allah.

Abul Ala Maududi
who take the unbelievers for their allies in preference to the believers. Do they seek honour from them whereas honour altogether belongs to Allah alone?

Muhsin Khan
Those who take disbelievers for Auliya’ (protectors or helpers or friends) instead of believers, do they seek honour, power and glory with them? Verily, then to Allah belongs all honour, power and glory.

Pickthall
Those who chose disbelievers for their friends instead of believers! Do they look for power at their hands? Lo! all power appertaineth to Allah.

Dr. Ghali
(The ones) who take to themselves the disbelievers for their constant patrons, apart from the believers; do they (inequitably) seek might in their presence? Then surely might altogether belongs to Allah.

Abdul Haleem
Do those who ally themselves with the disbelievers rather than the believers seek power through them? In reality all power is God’s to give.

Muhammad Junagarhi
جن کی یہ حالت ہے کہ مسلمانوں کو چھوڑ کر کافروں کو دوست بناتے پھرتے ہیں، کیا ان کے پاس عزت کی تلاش میں جاتے ہیں؟ (تو یاد رکھیں کہ) عزت تو ساری کی ساری اللہ تعالیٰ کے قبضہ میں ہے

Ala-Maududi

(4:139) who take the unbelievers for their allies in preference to the believers. Do they seek honour from them[169] whereas honour altogether belongs to Allah alone?


169. The term ‘jzzah denotes a position which is at once exalted and secure. In other words, the term signifies ‘inviolable honour and glory’.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Nisa verse 139 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
