Surah Ghafir Ayat 42 in Arabic Text

تَدۡعُونَنِي لِأَكۡفُرَ بِٱللَّهِ وَأُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ مَا لَيۡسَ لِي بِهِۦ عِلۡمٞ وَأَنَا۠ أَدۡعُوكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡغَفَّـٰرِ
Tad’oonanee li-akfura billaahi wa ushrika bihee maa laisa lee bihee ‘ilmunw wa ana ad’ookum ilal’Azeezil Ghaffaar

English Translation

You invite me to disbelieve in Allah and associate with Him that of which I have no knowledge, and I invite you to the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.

Yusuf Ali
“Ye do call upon me to blaspheme against Allah, and to join with Him partners of whom I have no knowledge; and I call you to the Exalted in Power, Who forgives again and again!”

Abul Ala Maududi
you call me to deny Allah and to associate with Him as His partners those regarding whom I have no knowledge (that they are Allah’s partners in His Divinity), whereas I call you to the Most Mighty, the Most Forgiving?

Muhsin Khan

Ala-Maududi

(40:42) you call me to deny Allah and to associate with Him as His partners those regarding whom I have no knowledge (that they are Allah’s partners in His Divinity),[57] whereas I call you to the Most Mighty, the Most Forgiving?


57. That is, about whom I have no scientific proof that they are God’s associates. Why should I then accept such a stupendous thing blindly that they also have a share in Godhead and that I have to serve them along with Allah?
