And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allah a lie.
‘But we do think that no man or spirit should say aught that untrue against Allah.
and that “we had thought that men and jinn would never speak a lie about Allah”,
‘And verily, we thought that men and jinns would not utter a lie against Allah.
And lo! we had supposed that humankind and jinn would not speak a lie concerning Allah –
And that we surmised that humankind and the jinn would never speak against Allah a lie.
although we had thought that no man or jinn would [dare to] tell a lie about Him.
اور ہم تو یہی سمجھتے رہے کہ ناممکن ہے کہ انسانوں اور جنات اللہ پر جھوٹی باتیں لگائیں
Quran 72 Verse 5 Explanation

Ala-Maududi
(72:5) and that “we had thought that men and jinn would never speak a lie about Allah”,[6]
6. That is, we were misled by those falsehoods because we could never think that the men or the jinn could ever dare forge a lie about Allah, but having heard this Quran we now know that they were, in fact, liars.
