And how many cities, with more power than thy city which has driven thee out, have We destroyed (for their sins)? and there was none to aid them.
(O Prophet), how many are the cities that had greater power than your city that drove you out? We destroyed them and there was none to protect them.
And many a town, stronger than your town (Makkah) (O Muhammad SAW) which has driven you out We have destroyed. And there was none to help them.
And how many a township stronger than thy township (O Muhammad) which hath cast thee out, have We destroyed, and they had no helper!
And (similarly) how many a town that was more valiant in power than your town, which has driven you out, have We caused to perish! So there was no vindicator for them.
We have destroyed many a town stronger than your own [Prophet]- the town which [chose to] expel you- and they had no one to help them.
ہم نے کتنی بستیوں کو جو طاقت میں تیری اس بستی سے زیاده تھیں جس سے تجھے نکالا ہم نے انہیں ہلاک کر دیا ہے، جن کا مددگار کوئی نہ اٹھا
Quran 47 Verse 13 Explanation
For those looking for commentary to help with the understanding of Surah Muhammad ayat 13, we’ve provided two Tafseer works below. The first is the tafseer of Abul Ala Maududi, the second is of Ibn Kathir.
Ala-Maududi
(47:13) (O Prophet), how many are the cities that had greater power than your city that drove you out? We destroyed them and there was none to protect them.[18]
18. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was sorely distressed on leaving Makkah. When he was compelled to emigrate, he had stood facing the city outside it and said: O Makkah, you are the most beloved city in the sight of Allah, and I have the greatest love for you out of all the cities of Allah. If the polytheists had not driven me out, I would never have left you. About this it has been said: After driving you out of the city the people of Makkah think that they have achieved a great success, whereas, in fact, they have hastened only their own ruin by this evil act. The style of the verse clearly indicates that it must have been revealed soon after the Hijrah.
