Surah Nahl Ayat 85 in Arabic Text
Here you can read various translations of verse 85
And when those who wronged see the punishment, it will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved.
When the wrong-doers (actually) see the Penalty, then will it in no way be mitigated, nor will they then receive respite.
Once the wrong-doers have beheld the chastisement, neither will it be lightened for them nor will they be granted any respite.
And when those who did wrong (the disbelievers) will see the torment, then it will not be lightened unto them, nor will they be given respite.
And when those who did wrong behold the doom, it will not be made light for them, nor will they be reprieved.
And when the ones who did injustice see the torment, then it will not be lightened for them, and they will not be respited.
When the evildoers face punishment it will not be lightened for them nor will they be given any respite.
Quran 16 Verse 85 Explanation
For those looking for commentary to help with the understanding of Surah Nahl ayat 85, we’ve provided two Tafseer works below. The first is the tafseer of Abul Ala Maududi, the second is of Ibn Kathir.
(16:85) Once the wrong-doers have beheld the chastisement, neither will it be lightened for them nor will they be granted any respite.
82. That is, they will not be given the opportunity to beg pardon of their Lord for their crimes. For that will be the time of judgment as the time of begging pardon would have ended long before this. The Quran and the traditions are explicit on this point that the place for penitence is this world and not the next world. Even in this world the opportunity is lost as soon as signs of death begin to appear, for the penitence at that time will be of no avail when a person knows that the time of his death has come. Respite for deeds expires as soon as one enters into the boundary of death, and the only thing that remains after that is the award of reward and punishment.
