What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur
“‘What is the matter with you, that ye place not your hope for kindness and long-suffering in Allah,-
What is amiss with you that you do not look forward to the majesty of Allah
What is the matter with you, [that you fear not Allah (His punishment), and] you hope not for reward (from Allah or you believe not in His Oneness).
What aileth you that ye hope not toward Allah for dignity
For what (reason) you do not hope to get reward from Allah for having reverence towards Him,
What is the matter with you? Why will you not fear God’s majesty,
تمہیں کیا ہوگیا ہے کہ تم اللہ کی برتری کا عقیده نہیں رکھتے
Quran 71 Verse 13 Explanation
For those looking for commentary to help with the understanding of Surah Nuh ayat 13, we’ve provided two Tafseer works below. The first is the tafseer of Abul Ala Maududi, the second is of Ibn Kathir.
Ala-Maududi
(71:13) What is amiss with you that you do not look forward to the majesty of Allah[13]
13. It means: as for the petty chiefs of the world, you think it would be dangerous to do anything against their dignity, but as for the Creator and Lord of the universe, you do not expect that He would also be a Being endowed with dignity. You rebel against Him, associate others in His Divinity, disobey His commands, and yet you are not at all afraid that He would punish you for your misconduct.
Ibn-Kathir
