Surah Nur Ayat 49 in Arabic Text
English Translation
Here you can read various translations of verse 49
But if the right is theirs, they come to him in prompt obedience.
But if the right is on their side, they come to him with all submission.
However, if the truth be on their side, they come towards the Messenger in all obedience.
But if the right is with them, they come to him willingly with submission.
But if right had been with them they would have come unto him willingly.
And in case they truly (have a case), (Literally: they are in the right) they will come up to it compliant.
If they were claiming their right, they would come willingly [to the Prophet].
ہاں اگر ان ہی کو حق پہنچتا ہو تو مطیع وفرماں بردار ہو کر اس کی طرف چلے آتے ہیں
Quran 24 Verse 49 Explanation
For those looking for commentary to help with the understanding of Surah Nur ayat 49, we’ve provided two Tafseer works below. The first is the tafseer of Abul Ala Maududi, the second is of Ibn Kathir.
Ala-Maududi
(24:49) However if the right is on their side they come to him (professing) their submissiveness.[79]
79. This verse states that a person who willingly accepts only that part of the divine law which serves his advantage, but rejects that which goes against his interests and desires, and prefers the worldly laws instead, is not a believer but a hypocrite. His profession of faith is false for he does not in fact believe in Allah and His Prophet but in his own interests and desires. With this attitude even if he believes in and follows a portion of the divine law, his belief has no value whatever in the sight of Allah.
Ibn-Kathir
