Allah is the most kind and most merciful.

He wishes for us Muslims an easy life:
“Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful. (Quran 2:185)”

Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) has revealed for us many du'as which we can recite that aims to provide comfort and protection for all kinds of situations. Protection from evil, shirk, the enemy, and to keep your family and children safe. We must put full faith and trust in Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) because without His will nothing can happen.

Lets begin with learning the first dua for protection. We include both transliteration and translation. You can also press the play icon to listen to the du'a with word-by-word highlighting, insha'Allah.

Dua Before Sleeping - Ayatul Kursi:

You probably already have memorized this next ayat known as ‘Ayatul Kursi’ from Surah Baqarah but do you recite every night before bed? Try it, and feel the peace and calmness it brings.

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) ordered me to guard the Zakat revenue of Ramadan. Then somebody came to me and started stealing from the foodstuff. I caught him and said,

“I will take you to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)!” Then Abu Huraira (RA) described the whole narration and said:
That person said (to me), “(Please don’t take me to Allah’s Messenger and I will tell you a few words by which Allah will benefit you.) When you go to your bed, recite Ayat-al-Kursi, (2.255) for then there will be a guard from Allah who will protect you all night long, and Satan will not be able to come near you till dawn.” (When the Prophet (pbuh) heard the story) he said (to me), “He (who came to you at night) told you the truth although he is a liar; and it was Satan.”

This ayat from Surah Al Baqarah is regarded as one of the loftiest ayat in the entire Quran, we wrote an article listing what other scholars and texts have said about the benefits of Ayatul Kursi.

English Translation:

"Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great."

Dua For Protection From Shirk

Shirk, (Arabic: “making a partner [of someone]”), in Islam, idolatry, polytheism, and the association of God with other deities. There are many different types of shirk ranging from ‘minor shirk’ to major which includes idolatry.

Allah is Al-Waahid (meaning ‘The Only One’) and to associate partners or other deity is haram. Allah (سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ) Warns his followers from committing this sin, "Say, [O Muhammad], 'I am only a warner, and there is not any deity except Allah, the One, the Prevailing.'" (Quran 38:65).

play_arrow

اللّهُـمَّ إِنّـي أَعـوذُبِكَ أَنْ أُشْـرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنا أَعْـلَمْ وَأَسْتَـغْفِرُكَ لِما لا أَعْـلَم

Allāhumma innī a`ūdhu bika an ushrika bika wa anā a`lam, wa astaghfiruka limā lā a`lam.

English Translation:

Another du'a you can recite is Ayatul Kursi which was mentioned earlier.

Surah An-Nas and Surah Al-Falaq:
You should recite this every night with your children and through time and repetition they will soon memorize it as well. These two are very short surahs but the rewards are tremendous.

Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would get ready for sleep, he would blow into his hands, recite the two chapters of refuge (surah al-falaq and surah an-nas), and he would wipe his hands over his body. Source: Sahih Bukhari 5960 Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Bukhari
