Surah Mumtahanah Ayat 6 in Arabic Text
English Translation
Here you can read various translations of verse 6
There has certainly been for you in them an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever turns away – then indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.
There was indeed in them an excellent example for you to follow,- for those whose hope is in Allah and in the Last Day. But if any turn away, truly Allah is Free of all Wants, Worthy of all Praise.
Indeed there is a good example for you in them; a good example for anyone who looks forward to Allah and the Last Day. As for him who turns away, Allah is All-Sufficient, Immensely Praiseworthy.
Certainly, there has been in them an excellent example for you to follow, for those who look forward to (the Meeting with) Allah (for the reward from Him) and the Last Day. And whosoever turn away, then verily, Allah is Rich (Free of all wants), Worthy of all Praise.
Verily ye have in them a goodly pattern for everyone who looketh to Allah and the Last Day. And whosoever may turn away, lo! still Allah, He is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise.
Indeed you have already had a fair example in them for whoever hopes for Allah and the Last Day. And whoever turns away, then surely Allah, Ever He, is The Ever-Affluent, (Literally: The Ever-Rich) The Ever-Praiseworthy.
Truly, they are a good example for you [believers] to follow, a good example for those who fear God and the Last Day. If anyone turns away, [remember] God is self-sufficing and worthy of all praise.
Quran 60 Verse 6 Explanation
For those looking for commentary to help with the understanding of Surah Mumtahanah ayat 6, we’ve provided two Tafseer works below. The first is the tafseer of Abul Ala Maududi, the second is of Ibn Kathir.
Ala-Maududi
(60:6) Indeed there is a good example for you in them; a good example for anyone who looks forward to Allah and the Last Day.[9] As for him who turns away, Allah is All-Sufficient, Immensely Praiseworthy.[10]
9. Who is hopeful of Allah and the Last Day: Who expectsthat one Day he will have to present himself before Allahand is hopeful that Allah will treat him benevolently andhelp him attain to success in the Hereafter.
10. That is, Allah has no need of such believers, whoprofess to believe in His religion as well as maintainfriendly relations with His enemies. He is Self Sufficient:His Godhead does not require that they shouldacknowledge Him as God. He is Self-Praiseworthy, i.e. Hisbeing praiseworthy is not dependent on the people’spraising and glorifying Him. If they affirm the faith, theydo so not for any good of Allah, but for their own good. And they cannot gain anything from their affirmation ofthe faith until they break off all connections of love andfriendship with the enemies of Allah as the ProphetAbraham (peace be upon him) and his companions did.
