Surah Jinn Ayat 17 in Arabic Text

لِّنَفۡتِنَهُمۡ فِيهِۚ وَمَن يُعۡرِضۡ عَن ذِكۡرِ رَبِّهِۦ يَسۡلُكۡهُ عَذَابٗا صَعَدٗا
Linaftinahum feeh; wa many yu’rid ‘an zikri rabbihee yasluk hu ‘azaaban sa’ada

English Translation

Sahih International
So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment.

Yusuf Ali
“That We might try them by that (means). But if any turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will cause him to undergo a severe Penalty.

Abul Ala Maududi
so that We might try them through this bounty. Whoso turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will cause him to suffer a grievous chastisement;

Muhsin Khan
That We might try them thereby. And whosoever turns away from the Reminder of his Lord (i.e. this Quran, and practice not its laws and orders), He will cause him to enter in a severe torment (i.e. Hell).

Pickthall
That We may test them thereby, and whoso turneth away from the remembrance of his Lord; He will thrust him into ever-growing torment.

Dr. Ghali
That We may tempt them therein; and whoever veers away from the Remembrance of his Lord, He will insert him into a mounting torment.

a test for them––but anyone who turns away from his Lord’s Revelation will be sent by Him to spiralling torment.

تاکہ ہم اس میں انہیں آزمالیں، اور جو شخص اپنے پروردگار کے ذکر سے منھ پھیر لے گا تو اللہ تعالیٰ اسے سخت عذاب میں مبتلا کردے گا

Quran 72 Verse 17 Explanation

Ala-Maududi

(72:17) so that We might try them through this bounty.[17] Whoso turns away from the remembrance of his Lord,[18] He will cause him to suffer a grievous chastisement;


17. We might try them by that blessing: We might see whether they remain grateful after having received the blessing or not, and whether they put Our blessing to right use or not.

18. Turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, means that one may reject the advice and admonition sent down by Allah, or one may disdain giving ear to Allah’s remembrance, or one may turn away from His worship.
