Surah Haqqah Ayat 9 in Arabic Text

وَجَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُ بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ
Wa jaaa’a Firawnu wa man qablahoo wal mu’tafikaatu bil khaati’ah

English Translation

And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.

Yusuf Ali
And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin.

Abul Ala Maududi
Pharaoh and those before him and the people of the overturned habitations all engaged in the same great sin.

Muhsin Khan
And Fir’aun (Pharaoh), and those before him, and the cities overthrown [the towns of the people of [Lout (Lot)] committed sin,

Pickthall
And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error,

Quran 69 Verse 9 Explanation

Ala-Maududi

(69:9) Pharaoh and those before him and the people of the overturned habitations[6] all engaged in the same great sin.


6. The reference is to the towns and settlements of the people of the Prophet Lot (peace upon be him), about which it has been said in( Surah Houd, Ayat 82) and( Surah Al-Hijr, Ayat 74), We turned them upside down.
