Quran 76 Verse 31 Explanation
For those looking for commentary to help with the understanding of Surah Insan ayat 31, we’ve provided two Tafseer works below. The first is the tafseer of Abul Ala Maududi, the second is of Ibn Kathir.
(76:31) He admits to His Mercy whomsoever He pleases. As for the wrong-doers, He has prepared for them a grievous chastisement.
34. In this verse “wrongdoers” imply the people whom therevelations of Allah and the teachings of His Prophet (peacebe upon him) may reach, yet they deliberately andconsciously decide that they would not obey and followthem. This also includes those unjust people who mayplainly say that they do not accept the revelation as God’srevelation and the Prophet as God’s Prophet, or that theydo not believe in God at all, and also those wicked peoplewho may not refuse to believe in God and the Prophet andthe Quran, but they are resolved not to obey and followthem. As a matter of fact, both these groups are unjust andwicked. As regards the first group, their case is clear andobvious; but the second group is no less wicked; it is alsohypocritical and treacherous. Verbally, they say that theybelieve in God and the Messenger and the Quran, but intheir hearts and minds they are resolved not to follow them, and their practical conduct of life is also opposed to it.About both Allah has declared that He has prepared forthem a painful torment. They might strut about in theworld, enjoy life as they like, boast and brag of theirsuperiority, but ultimately they will be subjected to adisgraceful punishment; they cannot enter and enjoyAllah’s mercy in any way.
