Surah Fussilat Ayat 48 in Arabic Text

وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَدۡعُونَ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَظَنُّواْ مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِيصٖ
Wa dalla ‘anhum maa kaanoo yad’oona min qablu wa zannoo maa lahum mim mahees

English Translation

Here you can read various translations of verse 48

Sahih International
And lost from them will be those they were invoking before, and they will be certain that they have no place of escape.

Yusuf Ali
The (deities) they used to invoke aforetime will leave them in the lurch, and they will perceive that they have no way of escape.

Abul Ala Maududi
Then all those deities whom they once used to call upon shall vanish and they will come to know for sure that there is no escape for them.

Muhsin Khan
And those whom they used to invoke before will fail them, and they will perceive that they have no place of refuge (from Allah’s punishment).

Pickthall
And those to whom they used to cry of old have failed them, and they perceive they have no place of refuge.

Dr. Ghali
And whatever they used to invoke earlier will err away from them, and they will surmise that in no way can they have any evasion.

Abdel Haleem
the gods they invoked before will have vanished away; they will know that there is no escape.

Muhammad Junagarhi
اور یہ جن (جن) کی پرستش اس سے پہلے کرتے تھے وه ان کی نگاه سے گم ہوگئے اور انہوں نے سمجھ لیا کہ اب ان کے لیے کوئی بچاؤ نہیں

Quran 41 Verse 48 Explanation

Ala-Maududi

(41:48) Then all those deities whom they once used to call upon shall vanish[64] and they will come to know for sure that there is no escape for them.


64. That is, in their utter hopelessness they will look around to see if they could find any one of those whom they used to serve and worship in the world, who could come to their rescue and save them from God’s torment, or at least have their punishment reduced, but they will find no helper on any side.
