Surah Nahl Ayat 95 in Arabic Text

وَلَا تَشۡتَرُواْ بِعَهۡدِ ٱللَّهِ ثَمَنٗا قَلِيلًاۚ إِنَّمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ
Wa laa tashtaroo bi ‘ahdil laahi samanan qaleelaa; innamaa ‘indal laahi huwa khairul lakum in kuntum ta’lamoon

English Translation

Sahih International
And do not exchange the covenant of Allah for a small price. Indeed, what is with Allah is best for you, if only you could know.

Yusuf Ali
Nor sell the covenant of Allah for a miserable price: for with Allah is (a prize) far better for you, if ye only knew.

Abul Ala Maududi
Do not barter away the covenant of Allah for a paltry gain. Verily that which is with Allah is far better for you, if you only knew.

Muhsin Khan
And purchase not a small gain at the cost of Allah’s Covenant. Verily! What is with Allah is better for you if you did but know.

Pickthall
And purchase not a small gain at the price of Allah’s covenant. Lo! that which Allah hath is better for you, if ye did but know.

Dr. Ghali
And do not trade the covenant of Allah for a little price; surely whatever is in the Providence of Allah, that is more charitable (i.e., better) for you, in case you knew.

Quran 16 Verse 95 Explanation

For those looking for commentary to help with the understanding of Surah Nahl ayat 95, we’ve provided two Tafseer works below. The first is the tafseer of Abul Ala Maududi, the second is of Ibn Kathir.

Ala-Maududi

(16:95) Do not barter away the covenant[96] of Allah for a paltry gain.[97] Verily that which is with Allah is far better for you, if you only knew.


96. That is, the covenant that you may make in the name of Allah as a representative of His religion.

97. It does not mean that they should barter away Allah’s covenant for some big gain. What it implies is that any worldly gain howsoever great is insignificant as compared with the worth of Allah’s covenant. Therefore, it will be a losing bargain to barter that away for any worldly gain, which is after all paltry.
