Surah Maryam Ayat 5 in Arabic Text

وَإِنِّي خِفۡتُ ٱلۡمَوَٰلِيَ مِن وَرَآءِي وَكَانَتِ ٱمۡرَأَتِي عَاقِرٗا فَهَبۡ لِي مِن لَّدُنكَ وَلِيّٗا
Wa innee khiftul mawaaliya minw waraaa’ee wa kaanat imra atee ‘aqiran fa hablee mil ladunka waliyyaa

English Translation

Sahih International
And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir

Yusuf Ali
“Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,-

Abul Ala Maududi
I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace,

Muhsin Khan
“And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir,

Pickthall
Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor

Ala-Maududi

(19:5) I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone;[3] and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace,


3. That is, I see none among my kinsmen, the family of Abiah, who is religiously and morally sound and capable of carrying on the work of the mission that has been entrusted to me.
