Surah Al-A’raf Ayat 182 in Arabic Text

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا سَنَسۡتَدۡرِجُهُم مِّنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ

Wallazeena kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa sanastadrijuhum min haisu laa ya’lamoon

English Translation

Here you can read various translations of verse 182

Sahih International
But those who deny Our signs – We will progressively lead them [to destruction] from where they do not know.

Yusuf Ali
Those who reject Our signs, We shall gradually visit with punishment, in ways they perceive not;

Abul Ala Maududi
As for those who reject Our signs as false, We shall lead them, step by step, to their ruin without their even perceiving it.

Muhsin Khan
Those who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), We shall gradually seize them with punishment in ways they perceive not.

Pickthall
And those who deny Our revelations – step by step We lead them on from whence they know not.

Dr. Ghali
And the ones who have cried lies to Our signs, We will soon gradually draw them (to punishment) from where they do not know..

Quran 7 Verse 182 Explanation

For those looking for commentary to help with the understanding of Surah Al-A’raf ayat 182, we’ve provided two Tafseer works below. The first is the tafseer of Abul Ala Maududi, the second is of Ibn Kathir.

Ala-Maududi

(7:182) As for those who reject Our signs as false, We shall lead them, step by step, to their ruin without their even perceiving it.

There is no commentary by Abul Maududi available for this verse.

Ibn-Kathir

182. Those who reject Our Ayat, We shall gradually seize them with punishment in ways they perceive not. 183. And I respite them; certainly My plan is strong.) Allah said,

﴿وَالَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَايَـتِنَا سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ ﴾

(Those who reject Our Ayat, We shall gradually seize them in ways they perceive not) meaning, the doors of provisions will be opened for them and also the means of livelihood, in this life. They will be deceived by all this and think that they are on the correct path. Allah said in another instance,

﴿فَلَمَّا نَسُواْ مَا ذُكِّرُواْ بِهِ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَابَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرِحُواْ بِمَآ أُوتُواْ أَخَذْنَـهُمْ بَغْتَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ مُّبْلِسُونَ – فَقُطِعَ دَابِرُ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ وَالْحَمْدُ للَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَـلَمِينَ ﴾

(So, when they forgot (the warning) with which they had been reminded, We opened for them the gates of every (pleasant) thing, until in the midst of their enjoyment in that which they were given, all of a sudden, We took them (in punishment), and lo! They were plunged into destruction with deep regrets and sorrow. So the root of the people who did wrong was cut off. And all the praises and thanks are to Allah, the Lord of all that exists.)﴿6:44-45﴾. Allah said here,

﴿وَأَمْلَى لَهُمْ﴾

(And I respite them) prolong what they are in,

﴿إِنَّ كَيْدِى مَتِينٌ﴾

(certainly My plan is strong) and perfect.
