Surah Al-A’raf Ayat 74 in Arabic Text
English Translation

And remember when He made you successors after the ‘Aad and settled you in the land, [and] you take for yourselves palaces from its plains and carve from the mountains, homes. Then remember the favors of Allah and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.”
“And remember how He made you inheritors after the ‘Ad people and gave you habitations in the land: ye build for yourselves palaces and castles in (open) plains, and carve out homes in the mountains; so bring to remembrance the benefits (ye have received) from Allah, and refrain from evil and mischief on the earth.”
And call to mind when He made you successors after ‘Ad and gave you power in the earth so that you took for yourselves palaces in its plains and hewed out dwellings in the mountains. Remember, then, the wondrous bounties of Allah and do not go about creating mischief in the land.’
“And remember when He made you successors after ‘Ad (people) and gave you habitations in the land, you build for yourselves palaces in plains, and carve out homes in the mountains. So remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allah, and do not go about making mischief on the earth.”
And remember how He made you viceroys after A’ad and gave you station in the earth. Ye choose castles in the plains and hew the mountains into dwellings. So remember (all) the bounties of Allah and do not evil, making mischief in the earth.
And remember as He made you successors even after cهd and located you in the earth, taking to your selves palaces of its plains, and hewing (its) mountains into homes; so remember the boons of Allah, and do not perpetrate (mischief) in the earth as corruptors.
Remember how He made you heirs after ‘Ad and settled you in the land to build yourselves castles on its plains and carve houses out of the mountains: remember God’s blessings and do not spread corruption in the land,’
اور تم یہ حالت یاد کرو کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے تم کو عاد کے بعد جانشین بنایا اور تم کو زمین پر رہنے کا ٹھکانا دیا کہ نرم زمین پر محل بناتے ہو اور پہاڑوں کو تراش تراش کر ان میں گھر بناتے ہو، سو اللہ تعالیٰ کی نعمتوں کو یاد کرو اور زمین میں فساد مت پھیلاؤ
Quran 7 Verse 74 Explanation

Ala-Maududi
(7:74) And call to mind when He made you successors after ‘Ad and gave you power in the earth so that you took for yourselves palaces in its plains and hewed out dwellings in the mountains.[59] Remember, then, the wondrous bounties of Allah and do not go about creating mischief in the land.’[60]
59. The Thamud were highly skilful in rock-carving, and made huge mansions by carving the mountains, as we have mentioned earlier see (n. 57 )above. In this regard the works of the Thamud resemble the rock-carvings in the Ajanta and Ellora caves in India and several other places. A few buildings erected by the Thamud are still intact in Mada’in Salih and speak of their tremendous skills in civil engineering and architecture.
60. The Qur’an asks people to draw a lesson from the tragic end of the ‘Ad. For just as God destroyed that wicked people and established Muslims in positions of power and influence previously occupied by them, He can also destroy the Muslims and replace them by Others if they should become wicked and mischievous.
